It's been a long week with a teething DS and I though this would be a lighthearted way to get to the end of today!

I'll start. I'm British but live in Australia. We took our 7mo DS to a daytime birthday party recently. It was sunny and although mostly in the shade, I was putting sun cream on him to be extra cautious. A friend's mother who was there (native Aussie) advised us to put him in the sun for 30 minutes without sun cream to 'toughen up' his skin to the climate. She had done it with her children. She was being deadly serious, definitely not joking Xmas Hmm.

What whacky advice have you been given?

I was told by a random older lady in a restaurant (first time we had been out properly since having DD 3 weeks earlier) that I should put her down and not pick her up so much. She knew because she had had 5 kids of her own! DD was having a bottle at the time...

My DM also took some convincing that DD's cot didn't need pillows, a duvet, bumpers, blankets, etc. She had babies in the 80s so frilly cots were more common but she did look bemused when I insisted DD's cot only needed a sheet and her sleeping bag.

Mil told me that suncream is a waste of time and that its not sunburn unless its actually sore.
Once ds gets solids he will sleep through.... nope the kid had reflux and threw everything up.

Someone mentioned sucking snot out of a childs nose, completely normal in lots of places, those weird snot suckers are a very western thing. My son has only recently been able to blow his nose, before that I would just suck it out and spit it in a bowl

When my DGD was tiny, she had an awful cold and her nose was very bunged up - DD was revolted when I picked up the baby and did this (spitting into a tissue) but she had to admit that it works really well... Grin
