Would you clean the neighbours side too?

This morning the sun is shining and I decided I want to try out my new pressure washer on the front step and path. We are semi detached with a neighbour who shares the same step by our front doors and his own path.

Shall I do my neighbours to? I absolutely don’t mind doing so. He’s at work so I can’t ask him. Would it be common courtesy to do his to? Or at least his step he shares with us? Or just leave it??

The front doors are a bit poop and I know sometimes of bits of water can get in from the rain or If I’ve used water to clean the door or something.

I don’t really want to risk getting water in his house or anything.

Also, he’s a keen gardener. There’s grass either side and plants either side of his path and step and I don’t want to damage his grass, plants or anything.

Aibu not to clean his step?

Do it and put a note through saying "I jet washed my path this morning and yours kind of got done because it was so close...I hope no water got into your house!"

MiniEggAddiction · 15/01/2020 09:37

Tricky. I'd err on the side of caution and not do it but next time you see him ask if him if he'd like you to. You sound like a lovely neighbour op!

BillHadersNewWife · 15/01/2020 09:38

You could shove some towels against his door. And his lawn will be fine if you don't directly hit it with the water. Same with the plants.

NewtonPulsifer · 15/01/2020 09:38

I wouldn’t without asking. When I have used my pressure washer it is easy to damage paint or varnish on a door or catch plants which rips the leaves.

Whoops75 · 15/01/2020 09:38

I would do the step.
Start at his side and wash towards your side so yours get the splashes.

BlackCatSleeping · 15/01/2020 09:39

Better not, but maybe mention you’ve got a pressure washer and see how he feels about the possibility of you doing it.

GaaaaarlicBread · 15/01/2020 09:39

I wish you were our neighbour ! You sound lovely 💕 I’d do it and pop a note through and say you did it whilst you were doing yours x

MrsPelligrinoPetrichor · 15/01/2020 09:40

Not without asking first, just say next time you do it would you like me to do yours as well.

Sadiee88 · 15/01/2020 09:41

Feel free to do mine lol but I’d probably ask first in case water gets in his house. Plus if his path is a bit dodgy the washer might make it worse....

Herpesfreesince03 · 15/01/2020 09:42

If you risk damaging his garden and potentially getting water into his house then definitely don’t do it. You don’t know if it will be appreciated in the first place, and it certainly wouldn’t be if you caused damaged. What if you caused water damage to his door/flooring/garden and he sent you a bill?

pawsies · 15/01/2020 11:00

Maybe just mention you've got a pressure washer now and if he wants to borrow it anytime then he is more than welcome to?

That avoids the whole damage aspect then

raspberryk · 15/01/2020 11:03

Not with a pressure washer. I'd be a bit pissed off if you did your path and step with it too, have you seen the messy spray they splash up? It'll be all over his door, house and possibly window!
