To be worried about this?

My 15 month old DS had dark green solid poo this morning. On wiping it was also a greenish/grey colour.
The only thing I can think of is that he was sucking on coal at my in laws on Sunday afternoon. As soon as we saw him, we took it off him immediately. They have a coal fire, He’s been eating a lot of peas lately too.

He’s also teething.

Do you think it’s anuyhung to be concerned about?

Nah, as a one off I’m sure it’s nothing. Make sure he is well hydrated to flush it through and give him some healthy food for the next few days though as coal absorbs vitamins and minerals from the body, in addition to toxins. (And it should only be used for toxins for suspected poisonings, not in fashionable smoothies 😂 sorry complete tangent) but yeah. If it’s 3 days or more of green poo, an increase or decrease in frequency or if he seems in pain or out of sorts go to doc.

Bunnybigears · 14/01/2020 08:15

Nope seems like you have identified the cause, if he is eating and drinking fine and plenty of wet nappies I wouldnt worry.

summeryet · 14/01/2020 08:15

Morning,

Sounds normal, my 17 month old sometimes has this depending on diet (sometimes the strangest of food causes it).

Just keep and eye and if it keeps up, get it checked for piece of mind.

Thanks for the replies.
I’m assuming it’s the coal incident, but would it take 36 hours to show up?

As others have said just keep an eye on it. My DD has horrific poos when teething and I distinctly remember green ones!

ActualHornist · 14/01/2020 11:13

Have you had any cakes with blue food colouring in recently?

Medievalist · 14/01/2020 11:15

I remember one of mine producing a bright green poo when he was about 2. Totally panicked until I remembered the Bugs Life birthday cake he'd had the day before with bright green icing ....

ActualHornist · 14/01/2020 11:17

@Medievalist I’m always disappointed when I have a rainbow cake and my poo isn’t also rainbow coloured Grin

Damntheman · 14/01/2020 11:20

If it helps it took 48 hours for my son to pass the magnet he swallowed when he was four.. That was fun! Still, it could well take 36 hours to affect his poo OP. Don't worry, as others have said it was a one off and your child is otherwise happy and drinking and filling nappies as normal I wouldn't be concerned.

Damntheman · 14/01/2020 11:21

Hah! Hornist I would be too :D I had a bit of a panic myself yesterday before I remembered I'd eaten beetroot the day before :o

AvaSnowdrop · 14/01/2020 11:22

My DC has that colour after eating blueberries.

CathyandHeathcliff · 14/01/2020 12:10

He has eaten a lot of blueberries, grapes and raisins lately..
