Have been on the go.

It occurred to me at about 6pm, whilst cooking dinner for me and DC that I hadn’t stopped since my alarm went off at 6am. And that I still had bedtime and a hour or so’s work to do.

It’s not a complaint - more a slightly shocked observation. Particularly as that’s the norm M-F.....

im writing this in bed while the 9 y old is bouncing off the walls,he havent slept at all in 3 days

Alkaloise · 14/01/2020 05:35

Weekdays around 4.30/5am - 9pm without much of a break (10min at lunch if I'm lucky). That includes morning exercise, commute, work itself, getting home, sorting out food and the kids and any "life admin".

Weekends are a little less full-on, with getting up around 6am and not really stopping until around 8pm, but a few more short breaks in between.

The curse of a busy job, young children and a neverending to-do list.

YouJustDoYou · 14/01/2020 05:37

I get woken at 5am by one of the kids peeing. Usually they then joyfully.cant get back to sleep. Then I'm on the go all day with either child care or work, straight to school.run, homework, cooking, bathtime, bed, rest from around 8 30pm. If I tidied the house nicely.wouldnt get a break until 9pm or so, but I can't be fucked at night as so tired so usually just leave it

adaline · 14/01/2020 06:26

Up at six, walk the dog, housework, breakfast, commute an hour to walk - 9 hour day - drive home, shower and dinner - by the time I sit down to eat I've been up for thirteen hours!

I just handed in my notice yesterday so no more of that bollocks Grin

Thefaceofboe · 14/01/2020 06:36

Up at 5.45 to start work for 7 and finish at 6. Usually settle down on the sofa at 7.30 ish and luckily have no children to sort Grin

whiskeyandice · 14/01/2020 06:39

I get up at 5am, sort kids, try and fit in a wash load or hoover whilst DCs are having breakfast. Drop them off. Head to work. Work until 5-6pm usually. Kids are either picked up and at home or I go and get them. Make dinner. More chores. Possibly more work. Have been known to iron until 11pm. Back up at 5am.
I know these are probably the most stressful years of my life and it gets easier but two little kids and a full time job and a house to run is just...exhausting.
You know when you're mum used to say "I haven't sat down all day" well yeah.

fishonabicycle · 14/01/2020 07:39

Yesterday up at 5.20, left for work at 6 15, got home around 7. Tidied, made basic dinner, did some washing, hung it to dry, sat down around 8.30.

cheeseislife8 · 14/01/2020 07:46

Alarm goes off at 5.20am, last night settled down for tea at 9.10pm. That's actually surprised me!

Viviene · 14/01/2020 07:53

Get up 6:30am, I won't be back home until 10:30pm.

MonstranceClock · 14/01/2020 07:56

Up at 6, get home at 8, put children to bed, cook myself some dinner, do a few hours tidying and work. Try and get I to bed for 11.

Nsky · 14/01/2020 07:57

And some of us have been ill too, 8 mths finally getting there

FagAsh · 14/01/2020 08:01

Everyone just works so relentlessly hard don’t they Sad

Thehogfatherstolemycurry · 14/01/2020 08:01

Husbands alarm usually wakes me at 4.30am but I just have a brew and chill till 6. Then up doing packed lunches, getting kids off to school, school run work, pick kids up, take them to their after school stuff some days, do dinner, more kids activities in evening. Usually sit down around 8pm and go to bed at 9pm when the kids do.

Newmetoday · 14/01/2020 08:07

Up at 7.20, start work at 9. Finish at 4.30 come home and have dinner, shower then sit on my arse until 9 when I’ll go up to bed to read before sleeping at 10.

fishonabicycle · 14/01/2020 08:55

I want to be you, @newtome!

myohmywhatawonderfulday · 14/01/2020 08:56

That used to be me. Then one day I got up and resigned. I now work in a flexible part time job and I am so much happier. It has taken over six months to adjust to not being on the go all the time. But now, I don't want to ever go back to that.

I also couldn't afford to do it but by being intentional there has been very little difference in our material lifestyle (food, car, holidays) and in fact less external childcare and more time to exercise and prep food has meant its been really positive.

ChocolateCoins19 · 14/01/2020 09:44

Get up 7.30.
Stoo about 9/10pm depending on time. Dd. Settles for is to get cleaned up. .. Wake various times in the eve

dudsville · 14/01/2020 12:50

I start at 6 and go to bed at 10, feeling asleep by midnight!

MeetmeinParis · 14/01/2020 13:52

I feel the same, if I think about it too much I get quite down about it if I'm honest, like, what's it all for?, what's the point?.....

LeekMunchingSheepShagger · 14/01/2020 13:56

I’m generally on the go from 6.30am til about 8pm. It’s more like 9pm a couple of times a week.

caperplips · 14/01/2020 14:05

Regular weekdays I am up at 6.45am. Leave the house at 7.50.
Get home at 6.30pm if not working late. Start dinner, cleaning laundry, tidying. Eat dinner anytime between 7.30 /8pm. Tidy up the kitchen (dh often works late), fold clean laundry, sort work clothes and school uniforms for next day, whizz around upstairs - give the bathroom a wipe etc. It is usually 9.30p / 10pm by the time I actually sit on the sofa!

15 hours on the go solidly 4 days a week. Thursdays are the worst days as we're out at 7.50am and due to dd's sport we're not home till 9/9.30pm and then face into dinner - have to say we have a lot of pizza on Thursdays but we get sick of that too. Sometime I eat dinner at 10pm that night.

Seeing it all written down it's no wonder we're tired by Friday!!

SmileEachDay · 14/01/2020 19:49

There are a remarkable number of collective hours on the go here!!

Vulpine · 14/01/2020 19:52

I'm sure most of you could cut down some of your hours and tasks with a little tweaking

NeverTwerkNaked · 14/01/2020 19:58

7 an - get up get ready get DS ready get DS to school head to work. 5 hours non stop at work, head back to pick up DS and a friend. Worked again while they played. Cooked dinner and tidied. Took DS friend home. About to do DS bedtime then will have to work again until 10.30/11pm.

And that's a good day!

NeverTwerkNaked · 14/01/2020 20:01

I make that 16 hours.
And that's only so "short" by cutting lots of corners, paying a cleaner, never ever ironing or any "not strictly essential " tasks.

But it's the only way to hold down a career and juggle it with a child whose medical needs the after school and breakfadt clubs couldn't manage.
