to want to return all junk leaflets delivered by R Mail to postman?

JinglingHellsBells · 13/01/2020 12:13

Every Monday we get junk mail, usually pizza leaflets and Hillary's blinds. Plus more. It goes straight into the recycling paper box.

I wondered though if there is a better way to say 'no thanks'? Can the postman accept it if I refuse to take it in when he calls?

I just feel this waste of paper and the risks to the environment of using all the ink / dyes on this stuff is an issue.

I registered with Royal Mail to stop the junk mail from them and it did work. The postmen do get paid to deliver it, so they can't just not give it to you or he could get into trouble

ClaudiaNaughton · 13/01/2020 12:56

I registered with Royal Mail also. Stuff kept arriving and postie said I can’t opt out so I showed him the form which he said he knew nothing about. No more junk since then.

amusedbush · 13/01/2020 13:03

DH is a postie and he has to deliver door to doors. If he was caught disposing of them (even if people didn't want them) he would be in huge trouble.

Her0utdoors · 13/01/2020 13:05

Thanks for the link to the form op.
I'd previously asked at the sorting office, and rung rm too and was told it wasn't a optional. I try and post them when I remember, if not straight in the recycling.

heartsonacake · 13/01/2020 13:16

I have also opted out, but stuff still gets through.

Sickofrain When did you opt out? Because it expires; you have to renew it yourself every two years.

brassbrass · 13/01/2020 13:23

That form says you'll still receive unaddressed material from companies other than royal mail. So it solves nothing.

DesLynamsMoustache · 13/01/2020 13:25

Delivered by companies other than RM. Not 'from' RM. But obviously it won't work for companies who deliver their own junk mail!

DesLynamsMoustache · 13/01/2020 13:27

But the vast majority of junk mail we get is delivered by RM here, so it would make a difference. The only other deliveries tend to be from local tradespeople or occasionally a double glazing first.

AllYouGoodGoodPeople · 13/01/2020 13:36

That RM form makes a huge difference here - when the two years was up I noticed and when our postman is off I notice.

And then there's the sign I got from ebay that says no junk mail, no leaflets, no charity bags, no religious callers, no buying at the door - that sorts most of the rest out - but the majority came from the postman.

ChocChipWookie · 13/01/2020 13:48

We get nursing homes and mobility aids when what I actually want is Subway vouchers and Dominoes codes.

JinglingHellsBells · 13/01/2020 13:52

Great! I'll be filling in the form.

If enough people do it, the companies who create these leaflets might get the message that it's not worth their while ( and money)

More power to MN is my moto!

but something like Dominos will come from them, they have their own leaflet delivery people?

The postman delivers them.

rslsys · 13/01/2020 14:06

Save a load up and then put it in an envelope marked return to sender and put it back in the post box, unstamped

Don't even bother with the envelope - just post the leaflets straight into the post box.

BlaueLagune · 13/01/2020 14:47

It's so annoying, not just because of the waste but because legitimate letters can get lost if you don't sort through the leaflets very carefully.

A few years ago I forgot to pay my road tax (when you still had a disk) because I didn't get the reminder. Later, I realised that I quite possibly did get it, but it got mixed up with all the leaflets. I am very careful now.

I haven't opted out because I am too lazy to do it every 2 years and it comes round so quickly.

PPs are right though, enough leaflets come through other sources too. I get so fed up with people coming up to the door every 5 minutes (it seems) with some sort of leaflet I don't want.

Nanny0gg · 13/01/2020 15:38

Yep. Make the Postie's life difficult. Because it's all their fault. Confused

zoobincan · 13/01/2020 16:05

**
*How do you suppose they will be able to do that if they have no idea what is in the envelope?

Don't even bother with the envelope - just post the leaflets straight into the post box.

Why? To make someone's life difficult? Awful thing to do.

Aridane · 13/01/2020 16:05

Thanks, @DesLynamsMoustache - very helpful!

Aridane · 13/01/2020 16:07

I had - incorrectly! - assumes that there were lots of people diligently and separately delivering takeaway menus, estate agent flyers, etc!

katy1213 · 13/01/2020 16:13

I've filled in the form and still it keeps coming. Postman said, 'Oh, we don't take any notice of those!"

Namechangeforthis123 · 13/01/2020 16:14

It's maddening. Our hallway was full of them the week we came back from holiday scooped straight intl the recycling. So annoying.

safariboot · 13/01/2020 16:18

Aridane where I live there are. You'll know when your normal post including the RM-delivered junk mail comes, so it's obvious when it's someone else doing leafletting.
