FFS wasted time with lying trades people

Had a new water heater tank installed last week, all good, but then that night discovered that the new unit burned out the "contactor coil" in the fuse box. The switch was tripped. That means storage heaters don't work, and water heater doesn't work. No heat or hot water in my home.

Did a bit of googling, okay I see the contactor coil regulates all these heating elements. So need a new contactor coil. Great.

I ring the place that installed the new cylinder and they were like, "Oh my god pure coincidence nothing to do with us bye" .

I call in an electrician who just spent the morning in my home poking around the fuse box and phoning his friends. He finally found a random switch in the airing cupboard and said, "Try this."

I said, "Okay but the contactor coil thingy? I think it burnt out? The fuse is off?"

"Oh the contactor coil has nothing to do with anything".

"Okay what is a contactor coil then?"

"I don't know"

I refused to pay him.

I would love to be able to contract someone to do something and then just have them do it right and thoroughly. Every fucking time I need something fixed I have to turn into Queen of the Harpies just to get it done right.

@PigletJohn thanks again. Being armed with a bit of knowledge helped weed out the time-wasters and get someone capable.

I've had nothing but hassle from most tradespeople I've dealt with - they are a nightmare!

Moved into a new build house and the electrician was supposed to come to replace my bathroom extractor fan. Failed to show up - TWICE. Called his manager....

Manager: "He came to your house on time and rang the doorbell but no one answered".

Me: "I find that VERY difficult to believe because I was home and the door did not ring - it's very loud and I can hear it throughout the house"

Manager: "Sorry about that but at the end of the day what can I do? It's his your word against yours".

Me: "Do you know the Willie the manager of X windows company?"

Manager: "Yes I do - we work with him a lot on new builds why?"

Me: "Speak to him - because HE WAS in my house at 4pm fixing my patio doors and he can attest that my doorbell did NOT ring"

Manager "Oh, hmmm right....well.....I will make sure the electrician is out tomorrow...."

ARGH! WHY DO THEY LIE?!??

Pigletjohn you should set up your own business... the millions of MNers would see the PigletJohn brand and know it was sound.

so is it really just coincidence? Seems counterintuitive.
Ask any car mechanic how many times part y fails straight after fitting a new part x. These things happen sometimes.
