To ask if anyone has had the YorkTest food intolerance test?

I’ve had IBS for a long time but the last couple of years it has been quite bad with symptoms on an almost daily basis. It really is controlling my life. My gp and hospital have basically written me off since I’ve had clear stool tests, coeliac test, colonoscopy, gastroscope and upper ultrasound scans, nothing untoward has shown up. The gastroenterologist at the hospital has said he can do nothing for me as the tests were all clear and I am to go back to my gp, she only offers the standard IBS meds which haven’t helped me.
I’ve tried the low fodmap diet twice under a hospital dietician with no real change in my symptoms.
I listen to an IBS hypnotherapy app each night which isn’t particularly helpful.
One of my last chance options is the YorkTest, I have often thought of trying this but it is very expensive (although has a January sale atm so its £199, still expensive though imo).
The reviews in Trust Pilot are really positive and some bloggers I’ve come across have said its really helped them but how to know if they are genuine or being paid to say so? I’ve not met anyone in RL who has tried this test.
I know there will be people who say it’s a con but I wonder if there is anyone here who has actually tried this or any other intolerance blood test and what your experience was?

I have suffered IBS for most of my adult life and ended up in hospital recently after a year of very serious symptoms.

In desparation and after numerous tests, scans etc I managed to find the most amazing Gastroenterologist. I had to go privately but he spent two hours with me and after ruling out a number of potential causes he advised me that he thought I possibly had issues with my gut biome. He suggested that I really should give Probiotics a trial and prescribed the following;

www.precisionbiotics.com/uk

I can honestly say that six weeks on the transformation is amazing. I have not had a single symptom for over a month.

I take both the Alflorex and the Zenflora and can’t recommend them highly enough.

If you are in the north and want details of the gastroenterologist I saw just pm me.

Years ago my mother paid a lot of money for the York Tests.

Her results were that she had intolerances to dairy, wheat and eggs which obviously made life very difficult indeed.

Fast forward to a few years ago when she had proper tests done by the NHS. Turns out she only has a dairy intolerance so all those years of restricting herself and going without were completely unnecessary.

Total rip off.

I had it done over the Christmas period. Turns out what I thought was a gluten intolerance was actually a yeast intolerance! And they picked up the cows milk which I thought I had. So overall I think they got it right Smile

The only problem is it does not pick anything up that is not in your system. So if you had an allergy and had not eaten any of that in the last six weeks then it would not show up.

The doctors had written me off with IBS as well......

Flyingsouthwiththeswallows Probiotics are one of the only things I haven’t tried, I must give it a trial I’m just scared they’ll make my symptoms worse.
Unfortunately I’m in the south. You didn’t see Prof Whorwell by any chance did you? I would love to see him but he’s based in Manchester bit too far for me.

YourEyesCanBeSoCruel that’s one of my concerns, I have quite a restrictive diet and there are lots of foods that I don’t eat so not sure if they would show up or not on the test. There are some foods I haven’t eaten for years!

My MIL has used York for years, and I personally think it is all based on spurious evidence. Her diet is very strict and it's a nightmare to feed her correctly when they visit as so many things are eliminated. A colossal waste of money.

Davincitoad · 12/01/2020 20:03

Can’t say too much but I know a bit about the company and I wouldn’t trust it. Also costs a fortune to actually get the final results.

Flyingsouthwiththeswallows · 13/01/2020 18:41

RhodaCamel I felt the same about Probiotics, very nervous and also if I am honest, cynical. Part of my nervousness was that I had been experiencing serious Vagus nerve irritation for the last year which was causing heart issues and I didn't want to take anything that could worsen that condition

I honestly can’t believe the improvement. It took about two weeks to settle down, but I now feel as well in Gastro terms as I did in my teens. Not a twinge for over four weeks.

Flyingsouthwiththeswallows · 13/01/2020 18:43

Sorry forgot to add no I didn’t see Prof Whorwell, but the person I did see was amazing.

I don’t want to plaster his name over MN but woukd share privately.

RhodaCamel · 13/01/2020 20:29

Flyingsouthwiththeswallows I can only dream of having a digestive system like I did in my teens. I really must overcome my fear of probiotics and give them a go, just so nervous!

I did the York test several years ago. If I had followed the results I would be dead by now.
From starvation.

Maybe have a stool test by Geneva diagnostics instead and also contact Dulwich health, they may be able to assist..

Dowser · 13/01/2020 23:10

Yes, op..Muscle testing is part of HK
Health kinesiology
I’ve looked down the york test and if I remember correctly there were some really obscure foods on there which chances are you wouldn’t run into in a million years or you’d hate anyway
Keeping a food diary ..is a nuisance.... But might identify some triggers.
You could give up gluten and dairy for 6 weeks..that’s checking all labels to be sure it’s not in ketchup, brown sauce etc or wherever else they hide it and then try eating a square inch piece of bread...and note what happens.
If fine ..the next day try a bigger piece and so forth.
If you can manage a slice, and you’re ok, then it’s not the gluten..so then try the dairy in stages
