Yes there's 33009 threads anyway but I have a specific qn.

Does their recent action remove H from the line of succession? How does this impact on Alfies place in the succession and if it does, is Beatrice back within the no of places where she needs permission to marry?

My understanding is that it doesn’t affect the line of succession at all, as Harry will still be a member of the Royal Family.

Can you imagine if this decision caused Andrew to move up the line of succession, second only to the Cambridge family? I reckon there’d be protests.

LuluJakey1 · 10/01/2020 23:59

No, not unless they have HRH removed.
Who is Alfie?

guineapig1 · 11/01/2020 00:00

It will nor impact on the succession to the throne in any way. In the extremely unlikely event of Charles, William, George, Charlotte and Louis all dying first and on the assumption of no further direct issue, Harry would be entitled to take the Crown. I I also think she’s Meghan.

Sparklingbrook · 11/01/2020 00:02

Meghan and Archie.

SachaStark · 11/01/2020 00:02

I thought Alfie was a typo for Andy, as in Andrew?

lyralalala · 11/01/2020 00:02

It doesn't affect the line of succession (unless Harry rules himself out - taking Archie out isn't easy now that he's born, you can't take away a place for someone else)

Even if Harry and Archie were removed Andrew would be 6th so Beatrice still wouldn't need permission to marry (and even if she did she's over 25 so can marry after 12 months)

They can also be in the line of succession without the HRH. Peter, Zara and their children are still in the line currently. Titles and succesion are two totally different issues.

no it has no effect on the line of succession. Zero, zip, nada. Just a family spat poured onto the world's news frame.

The British royal family's history is littered with stories of dysfunctional family relationships. George IV refusing his wife entry to Westminster Abbey for his coronation is a good one. This is fairly mild. No effect on line of succession.

We were in Hampton Court last year (we are not from UK) and were highly amused at the vitriol from Queen Caroline, wife of George II about her son Frederick. Pity the Daily Mail wasn't around then.

I am kind of amazed the UK people take all of this so seriously considering what went on in their royal family's past (and how normal people usually think about celebs)

Sparklingbrook · 11/01/2020 00:04

Oh is Alfie Andrew? Confused

StillCoughingandLaughing · 11/01/2020 00:06

It has zero effect on the line of succession. Even if Harry gave up his right to the throne, he had no say over Archie’s position in the line. Archie was born in wedlock to a blood royal - that’s all he needs.

LuluJakey1 · 11/01/2020 00:07

Harry is 6th in line to the throne and Archie is 7th. If William and Kate have any more children they will push Harry and Archie lower. In 30 years time, when William is King, there will no doubt be a further 9 Windsors between Harry and Archie and the throne, as William's children have their own children. Really, anyone below Charlotte (as the spare) is simply irrelevant to history.
Think Duke of Gloucester and his children. Most people couldn't even name them.

starfishmummy · 11/01/2020 00:08

He can opt out of the line of succession. But the announcement doesnt mention that he has.

pallisers · 11/01/2020 00:14

If it was 20 years ago he could have just become or married a catholic - there you are gone out of the line of succession.

Catsandchardonnay · 11/01/2020 00:22

Archie was born in wedlock to a blood royal blood royal?? Yeah right!

MarySidney · 11/01/2020 00:23

He can opt out of the line of succession.

It would probably require legislation. Not just in the UK, but in all the Commonwealth countries where the Queen is the Head of State.

SleepingStandingUp · 11/01/2020 00:32

Thanks. And yes @Sparklingbrook I meant Meghan and Archie, sleep thieves wrecked my brain

Oh for fuck’s sake, are you still trotting out the ‘Harry is a Hewitt’ line? I can’t believe anyone is that stupid.

Even if it WAS true, Prince Harry is publicly and legally acknowledged as Prince Charles’s son. The point about the line of succession stands regardless.
