He sleeps a lot

My partner sleeps a lot of the day. He works 8 hour shifts and will come home and nap for at least 2 hours. Will get a good 7 hours sleep at night. The rest of the time hes just sat looking miserable and yawning all the time. We have 2 DC's who probably get an hours worth of his time. When he has days off the day is mostly focused on his naps and his sleep. If I comment on it he just moans and says he's just tired. In the past he's said he likes having a nap to just get some time on his own when we were having some problems. We are fine now. Is it just him being lazy or could there be something wrong medically? I survive every day on between 4-5 hours and as a mum of 2 do not get the luxury of naps. Before I met him he would easily sleep 13-14 hours a day.

Last night he slept 12 hours and still is miserable and tired.

Pretty sure this isn't normal. Think it's time for him to go see a doctor just in case.

My husband is like this. He's "suspected coeliac"
He drives me nuts with the a amount he sleeps. He can easily sleep 9 hours over night and then continue sleeping and get up at 4pm

'my 9 y old weighs more than that hes just over 10 st.hes 5ft 3 though so not normal 9 y old size'

Your 9 year old is very overweight!

OP I agree with getting him to see a GP. There could be physical or mental health issues that even he is unaware of

I’d be fuming if my partner came in from work and took a two hour nap and I had two children ! 8 hour shift isn’t exactly long ! How selfish

whatsonmymind · 11/01/2020 19:38

Hes bothered that hes not getting enough sleep. He swears hes not depressed just tired. Not sure what to believe. He would never admit anything is wrong. I wouldn't say hes selfish if he really cant help it. But I know on occasion it's more that he just wants time away from DC.

Could be lots of things - anemia, food intolerance even allergies can make people super tired

ALongHardWinter · 11/01/2020 19:48

He should get his doctor to do a blood test for vitamin B12 deficiency. A lack of B12 can make you feel permanently tired.

9 hours is ALOT of sleep. 6-8 is fairly normal for a parent.

Nope. 'Normal' is 7-9 hours for an adult.
