Can't link as on phone. Its in the Guardian. Talks about children talking about climate change anf taking direct action like sit ins and protests. They should be referred as they are in danger of being radicalised. When contacted by the Guardian they said it was a mistake and are trying to recall the document. Hope no one here is radicalising their child.

Mumsnet FWR radicalised me years ago. 😁

That's a scary document when you read it. At work we are supposed to report people who are becoming radicalised because of the Prevent program. There was a big discussion about the definition of radicalisation.

Absolutely disgusting it was put in this document. They are not an extremist group in any way!

I am a bit of a Republican. At what point should i refer myself?

It was a mistake and the leaflets have been recalled.

chomalungma · 10/01/2020 18:10

Only a mistake because it was called out. It shows the Government feeling.

What is the definition of extremist that they have used?

If its
"a person who holds extreme political or religious views, especially one who advocates illegal, violent, or other extreme action."
Then (with the exception of violent as far as I know) it fits.

chomalungma · 10/01/2020 18:17

It's a definition that is open to interpretation. Who defines extreme.

I think the point made in the article about the potential for prevent to cross a line into inhibiting free speech is important. Referring a teenager for being emotive about the climate crisis (a scary scientific fact) is so far past that line that the line is a dot to it.

Patroclus · 10/01/2020 19:11

This is the same sort of 'mistake' the BBC makes with its wanking over BJ. Only a 'mistake' when its noticed.

Who defines extreme.

That is the point, I would class gluing yourself to a train as extreme.
I wouldn't class teaching a child about climate change as extreme.
