To be worried about mental health act assessment

busyweeks78 · 09/01/2020 21:05

My care coordinator mentioned this a few weeks ago I think now but luckily I managed to convince her I would be better off staying at home. Today when I meet her though she’s said she’s asked for one to be done and it will be done tomorrow. It’s to do with concerns for both my mental health and my eating etc. If I end up up being detained will I be sent to an acute ward or an eating disorder unit?

ED is a form of self harm. Refusing to eat or have bloods is an attempt to control the situation? Presumably they will assess op more fully next week and transfer if and when relevant. Are you taking any medication, op? Are you worried what blood tests may show?

UndertheCedartree · 11/01/2020 21:21

Yes, quite right, @LIZS - although they don't usually transfer to a PD unit based on that alone without other SHing. An ED unit may be more appropriate but they are even harder to get into than a PD unit, ime. However hopefully the acute can get the OP back on the right track and she can go back to community care.

AraGrand · 11/01/2020 23:44

Can I just say that it's extremely rude to talk about the OP as if she isn't here @UndertheCedartree @LIZS

Don't do that.

LIZS · 12/01/2020 08:11

I was responding to cedartree. Confused

busyweeks78 · 12/01/2020 09:25

No they aren’t giving me ensures just expecting me to eat the meals.

OP posts:
UndertheCedartree · 12/01/2020 09:59

@AraGrand - I'm not talking as if she's not here. We are doing what is expected on a forum - having a discussion. OP has been included with it all the way and will be getting useful information from the discussion. I think it's very rude to suggest OP isn't intelligent enough to do that to be honest.

UndertheCedartree · 12/01/2020 10:01

@busyweeks78 - how are things going today?

Would you drink ensures if they gave them to you? You could ask the consultant if so.

busyweeks78 · 12/01/2020 10:04

Thanks everyone for your support yes I am finding the information helpful.i think I would try and drink the ensures.

They won't have admitted you unless they have compelling concerns about your safety. I'm guessing your distress at restoring weight means you have a severe ED. The NHS will do anything to keep people out of hospital because of the cost, so if they feel community provision is inadequate it is their only option. They may regard your mental capacity/decision-making/insight into your ED to be impaired, hence they make the decision for you. I hope you can focus on recovery so that you can get on with your life without the ED controlling you (sorry if I'm making assumptions(. Good luck.

brendansbuddy · 12/01/2020 10:25

Also bloods can't lie whereas BMI can be inaccurate and manipulated (before anyone jumps, I'm not suggesting you are doing this!). So they need bloods to really check your physical safety. Your refusal may be seen as poor insight, or risk of self-neglect. If you can explain why you're refusing bloods that could be helpful.

UndertheCedartree · 12/01/2020 10:35

@busyweeks78 - that is great that you would try the ensures - a real step forward! I would speak to the consultant about it tomorrow.

I hope today goes ok for you. Take good care of yourself Flowers

busyweeks78 · 12/01/2020 12:47

UndertheCedartree Thank you hope your weekend has been good.

Request an IMHA and apply for a MHRT for the section 2.

If you refuse to take your medication they can legally force you to take them by IM. If you refuse to take your medication this could have an impact when your section is reviewed.

UndertheCedartree · 12/01/2020 13:08

@busyweeks78 - thank you - I've been home with my children this weekend so it's been busy but nice.

busyweeks78 · 12/01/2020 20:53

Glad to hear it.

SnowyMouse · 13/01/2020 18:51

I hope you had some progress today.

daisy129437 · 13/01/2020 19:13

I've been sectioned twice under the mental health act due to Anorexia, the second time not only saved my life but changed it and I've been in recovery for 5 years now and am 22 weeks pregnant. I know it's terrifying but sometimes it's for the best even when you're so poorly you can't quite see it. Sending you lots of positive thoughts.

busyweeks78 · 13/01/2020 20:02

Unfortunately no progress. He’s refused to give me ensures and say I just need to eat the meals. daisy129437 That’s so lovely you’ve been able to recover congratulations on your pregnancy.

@busyweeks78 - that's so strange if you are willing to drink ensures. Have you managed anything to eat? Have you got any leave?

I saw my consultant today - I was told I should be discharged next month and it was my discharge meeting. The psychologist now says I need more therapy before doscharge and looks like I'll be here for another 3 months or so. So dissapointed Sad

UndertheCedartree · 14/01/2020 11:08

@busyweeks78 - how are things today? Hope things are ok.

busyweeks78 · 14/01/2020 19:02

UndertheCedartree Sorry to hear that sounds difficult. I know it’s hard but it’s because you need the help and it’s better to get the right amount before discharge as unfortunately community isn’t always great with therapy in particular.

OP posts:
UndertheCedartree · 15/01/2020 09:24

@busyweeks78 - yeah I know you're right. My psychologist wants me to have some therapy in the community too and I'm pushing for it to be organised before I'm discharged as I'm so scared of being left in the community without any support.

How are things for you? How are you finding the ward?

busyweeks78 · 15/01/2020 13:31

UndertheCedartree Are you on a section 3? You don’t have to answer obviously but they have to give you aftercare if you are and that needs to be sorted before discharge.the ward is still very unsettled unfortunately.

OP posts:
UndertheCedartree · 15/01/2020 18:21

@busyweeks78 - I'm informal now. They do seem to be quite good at trying to get things in place before I'm discharged.

Sorry the ward is so unsettled. I hope you have found a space to relax. Have they sorted your meds yet?

UndertheCedartree · 18/01/2020 10:32

@busyweeks78 - I hope things are going ok for you Flowers
