To ask for holiday recommendation?

After years of flight/ apartment holidays and self catering, plus a couple of half board hotels, I fancy all inclusive but don't fancy traditional places like Spain/ Majorca.
If France did all inclusive I'd love it! But i don't think it's that kind of big hotel type place. So where can I go? Not too loud but nice pools and good food? Option for trips out too.

Gibraltar? I think british airways do package holidays there

BarbaraofSeville · 09/01/2020 20:49

But package holiday doesn’t equal All Inclusive, which I don't think is available in Gib.

OP, what's your budget? You say you want good food, but that's usually very expensive on an AI basis. I'd think about why you want to try AI? It's not usually a money saving option unless you're happy to take all meals from a buffet and for the food to be quite basic and repetitive.

And then the experience isn't really that great or relaxing, having to run the buffet gauntlet three times a day. Or possibly look at Turkey, that's usually better value than Spain for AI.

I think Gibraltar is possibly the most boring place I've visited.

How about Cuba? Food not particularly good but such an interesting place to visit and the beaches are beautiful. Or one of the Greek Islands as a base and do a bit of island hopping. Croatia is beautiful too and has alot of all inclusive options

Depends how far you want to go.
We’ve just come back from a AI in Mexico.
Best AI I’ve been to but we’ve only done various Canaries AI before.
Mexico is full of nice ones, drinks service to your lounger, nice cocktails etc etc

Latteaday123 · 09/01/2020 21:43

Just not the middle East!

edwinbear · 09/01/2020 21:47

Mexico is amazing. The hotels are amazing, service is fantastic and lots of opportunities to get out and about. I personally would recommend Moon Palace, as you have a la carte restaurants as part of the all inclusive and can get all inclusive spa with the ‘resort credits’ they give you.

Pugwash1 · 09/01/2020 21:57

Excellence Resorts. Always a great holiday. Lovely as you have to get a bit dressed up, no wristbands, ultra all inclusive and all top end alcohol if that's your thing. It's also adults only which was a plus for us but obviously not for everyone.

wonderstuff · 09/01/2020 21:59

We did onsite at Disney World with dining plan last year, definitely best holiday ever.

iklboo · 09/01/2020 22:04

We went to Bulgaria last year and loved it. We stayed in a quieter resort than Sunny Beach (Obzor). Eating & drinking out were very cheap, food was lovely, nice beaches, lots of history etc.

Sparklingplasters · 09/01/2020 22:05

Sardinia or Corsica

Tortoiser · 09/01/2020 22:05

Is Barbados too far?

EmeraldIsle81 · 09/01/2020 22:15

Try Dubrovnik! Quick flight, Fabulous AI hotels on the peninsula , lovely food and hospitality, easy to get into Dubrovnik walled city for culture also the hotels offer other excursions to the islands and over the border into Bosnia.
Easy on the pocket too, check out Jet2holidays OP.

Notmybloodymonkeys · 09/01/2020 22:15

@sleepismysuperpower1 I work in Gibraltar and a day trip is definitely enough!

Minimamame · 09/01/2020 22:15

Sicily is amazing. I’d highly recommend it.

Villagegreenpreservation · 09/01/2020 22:44

Thanks so much for these ideas. Sicily is one I hadn't thought of and Dubrovnik might be a great idea.
AI or a hotel at least half board is great after being exhausted when self catering where everyone else relaxes and I'm still cooking/ loading dishwasher etc and DH gets tired of driving everywhere. Maybe when kids are older we will do villa and driving again as I love France. I don't like to sunbathe or stay on a lounger so a few trips is a necessity too.
I'll get browsing thank you Smile

You don't have to actually cook when self catering you know. We almost always self cater and might have cooked breakfast, but all cooking and dishwasher loading is shared, there's certainly no lounging around for everyone else while someone's stuck in the kitchen.

We eat out once a day, sometimes twice and have a couple of supermarket runs to stock up on drinks, snacks, bread, cheese, olives, crisps etc. Probably works out cheaper than high end AI, but better food and nicer experience than mid range buffet AI.

Villagegreenpreservation · 10/01/2020 11:10

Maybe if we could find somewhere lovely but not miles from anywhere we could avoid the driving but I know the cooking would drive me mad as I always end up doing it. Maybe if we had a location within walking distance of restaurants we could make it work
I’ll have to make a SWAT analysis Grin
What I want is lovely scenery , not too busy but enough for children to do (they’d love traditional Spanish AI but I’d hate it because “there are people” as DH says. I want to relax with nice wine and decent food (I’m veggie so meals out can be tricky depending on location) Italy was great for eating. I’ll continue to Google

Thessaloniki
Can walk into the city, loads to do, nice beaches and plenty of vegetarian Greek food
