WIBU to stop washing my kids

So, I'm back at work this after having had my second son and trying to get into a morning routine that works. Usual procedure has always been for everyone in the family to have a wash each morning and evening. This is how DH and I were both brought up, so have always done this.

But I'm wondering, do other people perhaps wash their kids less? Especially as they don't really sweat or anything? For context, I have a 1 year old and a 3 year old, so still quite little. DS1 bathed only in the evening until he started nursery at age 1. DS2 has started nursery this week and so is now also having a shower in the morning too.

By the way (in case it makes a difference), I've when I say bath, I generally mean put them in the bathtub, but ultimately showering them. Sometimes in the evening we run the bath, especially for DS2, but can also be a shower then too.

You full on shower them every morning Confused why?
I thought you meant just a wipe with a flannel (still more than i do).

Morning, up out of bed, new nappy, dressed and out the door to nursery. Done in 10mins

Fatasfooook · 09/01/2020 18:51

I bathed every night at that age as it was part of bedtime routine. I find at that age they can get pretty dirty. Older now and bath every 2/3 night. Normal face wash in the mornings.

swashbucklecheer · 09/01/2020 18:52

Bath/shower twice a week other than that face teeth and hands each morning. (Thou baths more often if needed)

minipie · 09/01/2020 18:52

Bath or shower at night (or flannel wash if we’ve been late home or they are very tired)

Flannel wash in the am

Strangerthingshere · 09/01/2020 18:53

Wash at night. Face and hands in the morning

Hercwasonaroll · 09/01/2020 18:53

You wash them twice a day? Their skin must be ruined and your bills insane.

I wash my kid 3 times a week in the shower.

Pipandmum · 09/01/2020 18:53

My routine was to bathe them every night as part of the getting ready for bed ritual. I did this from day one. I don't think you need to do it twice a day and I never showered them as generally they weren't keen on water in their heads from above. A quick wipe with a damp cloth after meal times maybe.

TrixieFranklin · 09/01/2020 18:53

I have 2 3year olds and a 6 month old, unless anyone has a really messy day they are bathed twice a week and other than that wiped/rinsed as needed. Today wasn't a Bath day but I washed DS1s hair over the sink as he used it as a paint brush at nursery for example.

Sirzy · 09/01/2020 18:54

Teeth and face/hands wash is more than enough.

Bathing every day isn’t needed let alone twice a day!

MmmMalbec · 09/01/2020 18:54

5 and 2 year old bathed every other night unless extra dirty. Would never shower etc them in the morning until they’re older!

EmeraldShamrock · 09/01/2020 18:55

It is to much.
Give yourself a break.
If they have a bath the night before a quick hand and face wash with a flannel will do.

DesLynamsMoustache · 09/01/2020 18:55

Yeah that seems excessive. DD is 1 and gets a bath every night just because she really loves it. She really doesn't need it for cleanliness. We only actually use shampoo/soap half the time. And I don't wash her in the morning because she's just been in bed all night and isn't dirty! She just gets normal hand/face wipes after meals.

Tombliwho · 09/01/2020 18:57

Do you mean a bath every night and also a shower in the morning? For toddlers??
Yes that's excessive. Not good for time management or their skin.

BeeFarseer · 09/01/2020 18:58

Far too much. A bath every night is lovely as part of bedtime, but it isn't necessary. We shower DS1 and DS every other night, with a proper bath reserved for Sundays. They are 9 and 4.

Your kids aren't getting dirty overnight, drop the morning wash and save yourselves time and stress.

bakewreck99 · 09/01/2020 18:58

Bath at night, face/hands/teeth in the morning. Now my dd is older she can do a bath every other day as she doesn’t have that caked in grime/food/snot thing you get from under 5 nursery.

LoveB · 09/01/2020 18:58

Showering in the mornings at that age really is pointless, I only started showering every morning when I stayed secondary school. We bath DD every night (but use soap every other night) as it's part of our bedtime routine

Strongmummy · 09/01/2020 19:00

I don’t know anyone who washes their kids in the morning!!!!!

NoCleanClothes · 09/01/2020 19:00

God I would never try to bathe kids in the morning. They don't need to be washed every day anyway (although we usually do just for the routine). A morning shower only needs to start when they're becoming teenagers (around secondary time or slightly before) and when they're old enough to wash themselves!

Topseyt · 09/01/2020 19:01

I gave them a bath every evening. Mornings were just nappy and clothes change, hand and face wash, quick bite to eat, teeth clean and out. DH and I would each have quick showers each morning.

That worked for us. No need to overdo the bathing. Once a day is sufficient, and sometimes not that.

CountFosco · 09/01/2020 19:01

My youngest has eczema and at that age we were told to bath him once a week. Older two we bathed every second day.

Walkon · 09/01/2020 19:02

Goodness, why do they need a shower in the morning if they've had a bath at night? They could hardly get dirty whilst in bed.
Mine used to have a bath every night when they were little . Now shower every second day and face/hands teeth every morning.

LateMumma · 09/01/2020 19:03

Bath/shower 3x a week now, plus hands, face before school. Used to be every night as a toddler as part of sleep routine, but not since toilet trained really.

Cath2907 · 09/01/2020 19:03

I have a big pile of reusable baby wipes (basically 1/4 size flannels). DD gets a bath most evenings but in the morning she just gets a hands and face flannel!

Poing · 09/01/2020 19:04

In winter, kids are washed two to three times a week (bath or shower), more if they are stinky. We have an electric toilet, so they get a warm wash and dry each poo and wee and then face washed mornings as well as when dirty. Kids have eczema flare-ups so this helps control it a bit better.
