Noro virus sickness pattern

MyBrambles · 09/01/2020 17:13

ds had a tummy bug.

First rumblings /tummy ache during the night from Friday to Saturday.

1X sickness on Saturday evening, 1X on Sunday morning and 1X Tuesday afternoon. Also moderate diarrhea (sorry tmi) but not too bad

Could this be Noro virus or is more likely to have been food poisoning as the sickness overall wasn't too frequent or volatile?

Asking as dh has also been feeling a bit queasy on and off in the last few days but feeling a bit more nauseous now. He has a big meeting tomorrow so we are speculating whether ds had noro virus and dh caught it or not... bets are open Grin

How does Noro virus usually present? Envy

Nirovirus is usually very sudden onset and then very frequent bouts of vomiting/diarrhoea. Doesn't sound like it.

When I had it I was sick and had diarrhoea at the same time. One in loo, other in bath. Every half hour all night. And then stopped. Felt v weak and tired afterwards.

MatildaTheCat · 09/01/2020 17:17

It could be another virus. Norovirus is usually short and sharp.

DH had it recently. Came on suddenly, he felt absolutely dreadful and was violently ill. Fever, headache and further D&V, mainly V and abdompains.

Next day was feverish, exhausted and generally unwell but no further vomiting. Day after felt reasonably well.

How I avoided it I’m not sure but I certainly didn’t touch him!

It may be another, milder, bug though.

HRH2020 · 09/01/2020 17:17

It will be a sickness bug rather than food poisoning which is quite rare

MyBrambles · 09/01/2020 17:20

In my ignorance I thought Noro virus was the main tummy bug and most other sickness based illnesses were due to bad food.

Mhm, so could be a milder but still infectious bug. Oh no.

Firstly these things are very unlikely to be food poisoning and much more likely to be a virus. It really doesnt matter what you call it, until recently they were all calle winter vomitting virus. They will all present as either vomitting or diarrhoea or both. You should try not to spread the joy. If he his still unwell tomorrow he should not go to work. True food poisoning is not all that common unless there is a salmonella food source or similar, whereas upchuck bugs are ten a penny
