Hi, I've just been changed over the UC and have a question about the advance payment. How does the amount offered relate to how much your monthly UC amount is? They can't tell me how much I'll get per month as yet but I'll find out two days before my first payment. I was able to get an advance of £772 (but didn't take it all) so I'm wondering if this similar to the monthly amount?
Thanks Smile

Your total advance is how much you’ll usually get. (Minus any deductions for working etc)

Just to clarify, I haven't had my first payment yet which is why I was offered the advance.

I was told I could only take an advance of half of what my UC payment would be but that was 2 and a half years ago so don't know if they've changed it since.

My sister had an advance payment last week - her monthly amount was offered as the advance - and she was told it is taken back over the next 12 months directly from each payment.

I find out 5 days before my payment what it will be for that month are you sure its 2 days ? And id avoid the advanced payment if you can as they can take a lot off you each month to pay it back and it can end up making you worse off in the long term

BercowsFlamingoFlownSouth · 09/01/2020 12:54

I hope it's not what I'll be getting as it's about half of what I get now with tax credits, income support and housing benefit Sad

LucaFritz yes, they says two days before for the first payment. The repayments are £33 a month for the advance. If I didn't take the advance I couldn't feed us but only took what I'd need.

Its maximum of what you will be getting every month.

Rara94 · 09/01/2020 13:36

Does seem a bit low but that depends on circumstances and the new 30% deductions rule

Blippolbblopp · 09/01/2020 14:09

Mine wasnt my maximum entitlement, im entitled to £952 on UC ( not including housing costs ) and when i first got UC my advance was £600

BercowsFlamingoFlownSouth · 09/01/2020 14:13

Thanks everyone. I've spoken to them and it's the entitlement without the housing costs. It used to be the full amount but they changed it a while back. Phew!
