Flucloxacillin Awful stuff

Any tried and tested tips please? I'm desperate Sad it's vile stuff and DD(5) is not having any of it. Tried chocolate buttons, bribes, having a nice drink handy to drink straight after. Not happening.

We did have to argue for something else and they warned that it might not be as effevtive and to ensure we finished the program. But she got better really quickly once we were given something she could keep down. Can't remember for the life of me what it was called, sorry

DD had this last year. She needed some chocolate after each dose to help it down.

At the end of the course I realised it had actually stained her teeth slightly orange! They had a definite orange tint for around a month or so afterwards but did thankfully go back to their normal colour eventually.

She'd opt for tablets next time for sure!

She's really competitive so I was wondering about making up a syringe with something that looks like her medicine for myself then "racing" her to finish the syringe first but i'm not sure.

Milkshake (thick bottled stuff) worked for my DS when he was younger.

I had this battle years ago. Strawberry or mint flavouring from the baking aisle of any supermarket masked it.

There was an after taste but nothing a chocolate button couldn't fix.

littlebear it's worth a try (those ice cream syrups are great placebos)
good luck.
from about 6 yo we asked the pharmacy for capsules (to mix the contents with above syrup or nutella)

With ds1 when he was 2yr was prescribed it. We couldn’t give it to him. Well I managed to give him two doses, one that he swallowed and one he vomited out. I took him back and was told ok, let’s try this other antibiotic, if you have no success then it is iv antibiotics. There was huge trust issues but I managed to bribe him to finish his dose. I think he was to weak to fight me at that time and his body was not refusing it. He just gave up and took his medicine. It was a huge battle and dh tested it in front of him and was unable to hide his disgust. Please don’t try it in front of your kids first time, to see what all the fussy is about. Ps he wasn’t being rude just saying to ds1 look daddy is eating his medicine and being very brave. Are you a brave boy to? Which normally works on him when giving him vegetables/ food he don’t like.

One of mine has had this. It is revolting. The trick is to put something sweet in their mouth first and get them to swill it round eg mint cordial or honey, then the medicine, then syringe of water (to flush it down) then something sweet again. Finally a chocolate button or whatever, as a reward.
