To ask what I'm meant to wear to get married?

I couldn't find the right category and this has the most traffic but...

I'm getting married in February, just me, DP and 2 witnesses.
Obviously I don't get a proper wedding dress, but what kind of thing do I wear, just a nice white casual dress? Jeans and a top? I'm just not sure?
Then theres what DP wears, just a shirt and nice trousers?
Or is it really just that deep and we wear our normal stuff?

This one is supposed to be Mother of the Bride!

Sorry op but those ASOS dresses look like something you'd wear on the beach

MillicentMartha · 07/01/2020 20:25

Ah, cross posted! Your dresses look lovely, OP!

MillicentMartha · 07/01/2020 20:27

Yeah, different taste, but you go with what you’d feel fabulous in. That second dress is lovely but a bit low cut, maybe?

Newbameforanewdecade · 07/01/2020 20:30

The only thing with your dresses - will they not be a bit summery for February? (Unless you’re not in Uk of course)

Sparklynewyear · 07/01/2020 20:31

I got married similar to you and I wore a kind of burgundy dress, it was Autumn and it was the type of dress I'd probably wear to someone else's wedding. Dh wore a nice suit but not a wedding type suit.

I had the same dilemma though, felt a bit strange turning up to the registry office dressed up, but equally didn't seem right to do it in jeans and T-shirt!

olivertwistwantsmore · 07/01/2020 20:31

Um, op, don’t want to be negative but a huge t-shirt, really?

What do you like wearing? What do you feel fabulous in?

Go for that. Make sure you and dh are similarly smart though, so he’s not in a DJ and you in jeans.

I think your second dress is too low-cut for a wedding. More suitable for beach?

How about looking in Monsoon - they might have a good sale on?

Congrats!

Newbameforanewdecade · 07/01/2020 20:33

More like the ones you like but a bit more like a “dress”

Sparklynewyear · 07/01/2020 20:33

I spent ages on Asos looking for a white casual dress.

Honestly I wouldn't worry about it being white, better you're comfortable in it.

annualleavepurchase · 07/01/2020 20:34

I work near a registry office, I see people dressed up all the time for weddings.

It's still your wedding day after all. Will you not want a nice photo to commemorate it?

annualleavepurchase · 07/01/2020 20:35

@Newbameforanewdecade that is nice.

KhoPeePee · 07/01/2020 20:36

The ones you posted are lovely but that Little Mistress one is perfect

june2007 · 07/01/2020 20:37

You could geninly get married in your birthday suit if you so choose. But I would wear a nice dress.

KhoPeePee · 07/01/2020 20:38

And for your DP, smart ish trousers (chino type in a dark colour) and a shirt and brown nice shoes maybe? Assume he might like an excuse to buy something nice to wear too? But as others have said, whatever you both feel happy in is great. Congratulations on the wedding

flirtygirl · 07/01/2020 20:42

All the people I know who got married at the registry office still wore wedding dress and groom in a suit. Some Asians and Africans wore their traditional outfits.

So I do not understand the idea that because it's at the registry office, that you would not get dressed up.
We used to be near the registry office before it moved locations so saw hundreds over the years.

But anyway wear what you want op.

partysong · 07/01/2020 20:48

That ASOS t shirt one will look awful in real life, that kind of stuff always does from ASOS

Elouera · 08/01/2020 08:15

The ones from asos OP look more suitable for a very casual beach side wedding IMO. I can't believe how short they are! If I tried wearing any of them, guests would certainly get a frightful view if I bent over!! I would think knee length might be more suitable, but if a baggy T-shirt is your thing, then go for it, but many would think it awful!

I think that is the one thing you can't do. You'd be arrested for public indecency.
