So, me and my husband are TTC.
Very scared, very excited.
I'm posting here for traffic really, I just want to hear some of the good parts of parenting. I've been reading a lot of negative things today and it's scaring me a little bit!

Particularly when they are small, every day brings something new. It's a bloody awesome time, and you'll love it. It'll be hard, but everything worthwhile is!!!!

When they are older, they can make coffee and clean stuff. It's awesome!!!!

livingthegoodlife · 07/01/2020 14:49

Warm hot little hands around you when they cuddle

Proud of drawings/creations

The smell of their little heads

Laughing. All the time.

Teaching them about the world.

Reliving your childhood by going to places you only go with kids

Feeling purposeful

Feeling loved and loving in return

fizzymango · 07/01/2020 14:51

Christmas with young kids is so magical Xmas Smile

ShoesCoatBag · 07/01/2020 14:52

You can serve fishfingers whenever you fancy.

Bibbidybobbitysplated · 07/01/2020 14:53

The cuddles are amazing, they make you laugh so much, they teach what is important in life

firstimemamma · 07/01/2020 14:53

It's a love like you never knew existed. Cheesy but true!

mbosnz · 07/01/2020 14:53

Being the centre of their universe, and an infallible god-like being - albeit for a very short time!

The funny things they do and say that become indelible parts of family lore.

Sharing the wondrous joy of exploring the world for the very first time - how magic a cloud can be, a puddle, a yoghurt.

Little starfish hands and milky dreams.

Sharing the journey of the joy of learning again, as they learn a love of reading, of learning new things.

The fantastic arguments and debates, and learning from them, as they grow older and form their own passions and viewpoints. . .

The way they still need you, and love you, and hug you even when they now tower over you (and never cease enjoying pointing this out!)

Feeding them.

TheJoxter · 07/01/2020 14:54

This morning my 2.5 yr old put his little hands on my cheeks and said, very seriously, “I like you mummy”

I’ve been wondering if my 7yo is old enough to use the kettle yet so I can train him to make tea...

They’re exhausting but it’s so worth it

MadamShazam · 07/01/2020 14:55

Definitely the love you feel, its like no other kind of love ❤

MissConductUS · 07/01/2020 14:55

Watching them learn and get better at things is awesome.

Sipperskipper · 07/01/2020 14:55

Ahh great thread idea. My lovely DD is 2.5. Best bits:

  • The pleasure we now find in previously boring things. A trip to B&Q to get some bits of timber is a great hour spent with DD.
  • Her wonder at the world. ‘Oh my GOD it’s a HOVERFLY!!!!!’
  • Watching her develop and gain new skills. Out of nowhere she can suddenly draw people, with arms and legs. She could only draw lines a week ago!
  • Listening to her play with her (my old!) Sylvanian families, making up little scenarios and doing different voices.
  • Seeing how gentle she is with animals, even tiny insects. She just loves all creatures, and it makes my heart burst!
  • Watching her with my parents, and seeing their relationship grow

Just seeing her enjoy herself is enjoyable if that makes sense. If she’s happy, I feel happy!

strawberry2017 · 07/01/2020 14:56

When they get so excited to see you when you pick them up after a long at around work.
The cuddles. When they hold your hand because they want to not because they have to.

MoreSexPleaseImBritish · 07/01/2020 14:56

My DD (10) makes me so proud. She is so kind and patient with everyone.

The love you have is like nothing else.
The 'in' jokes.
:Laughing and being silly.

She helps me be a better person, she makes my life happier, she makes me see the world differently.
She has made me more ambitious and courageous.

99bb · 07/01/2020 14:57

Every day is fun, love like no other, the love they have for you when little, the cuddles, the pride of watching them develop. All of it!

GazC85 · 07/01/2020 14:58

When they look straight into your eyes the first time you hold them.

The scream of excitement and delight you hear when you pick them up from nursery.

Reading the books you remember and realising you are creating that same life long memory you have.

Seeing them smile and hearing them laugh.

Watching them try a lemon for the first time.

myohmywhatawonderfulday · 07/01/2020 14:59

Hearing their cry and knowing its their cry. Its a deep, ancient and instinctive feeling.

Their smell.

There is nothing in the world that compares to meeting your child for the very first time and seeing their face.

Getting to know them and their personality right from the start they are their own person.

Communicating and knowing them as toddlers when they are still non-verbal.

Seeing them develop and become independent.

Storytime - every night its really special, cuddly and over time the books get better and better.

witherwings · 07/01/2020 15:00

The laughter and the smiles. Children will make you laugh so much with the stuff they do and say (unintentionally funny when they are babies and very small) and then so funny when they get bigger and understand jokes.

The cuddles

FilamentBabe · 07/01/2020 15:01

Where to even begin? As long as the list of challenges are that comes with being a parent, the list of positive things is always so much longer. A few highlights for me is the verbal mistakes they make when learning to talk, the pictures they make for me, the pride and joy I take in seeing them achieve.

The ability to view the world through a child's eyes again is a very beautiful thing.

Xmasbaby11 · 07/01/2020 15:02

The love. Just the overwhelming amazing love. And you can't believe how beautiful they are.

Also they are just hilarious, so much fun.

Their wonder at simple things.

Watching them interact with siblings / your dp / other people you love.

Now I have my own dc I love children generally. Never used to 'get' them.

hookiwooki · 07/01/2020 15:03

The joy in the simplest of things. A leaf on a breeze, raindrops on noses.

The look of pride on their faces when something they've done makes you smile.

The first Christmas card they bring home from school, clutched so hard in their excited little hands that it's all creased.

The first time they write their name and half the letters are backwards and/or upside down.

The first time they manage to read CVC words.

The first stone or twig they give you, because they want to give you a present and it's all they have.

Their excitement as they figure out how to make big splashes in the bath water.

Always feeling like you have a little friend. I've been really ill and my toddler is non verbal but he knows just how to make me smile. He's been bringing me toys to cheer me up. He's particularly enjoying bringing me little towers of Duplo that he's proud of.

They can be complicated creatures, but generally they just want to make you happy, because your happiness is theirs. It's a beautiful relationship.

UndertheCedartree · 07/01/2020 15:05

Newborns are adorable. All their little vests and sleepsuits are so cute. Holding a warm little bundle is lovely and I have precious memories of being up in the early morning just us, feeding and cuddling. Watching them grow and all the different stages is lovely. Seeing things like Christmas through a child's eyes is amazing. All the funny and cute things they say, the love they give you, the cuddles, how proud you feel when they learn new things like how to walk or how to read. I love doing arts and crafts and cooking with them, playing games and lego. And I love doing my DD's hair. I love being a mother!

CheshireDing · 07/01/2020 15:10

The love my 3 little ones show each other when they have been apart for a bit (might just be an hour!)😂

ArrabellaAM · 07/01/2020 15:11

Their little (big) smiles, full on belly laughter and being so happy and excited about something it just beams out of them.
My son likes to stroke my hand when hes falling asleep.
Seeing this amazing personality develop over time.
Watching them learn and study things.
When they're asleep in your arms.
Its honestly amazing.

Dony worry about the negatives too much. I had PND so had a lot of negative's at first but with help and treatment I can now see all the positives above and 100s more.
Just know that whatever your struggling with theres millions of other mums in the same boat so never feel ashamed to ask for help or advice when you need it.

hookiwooki · 07/01/2020 15:11

Yes yes! Beautiful, soft hair to stroke as you just watch them sleep, even though you know you should just be sleeping yourself! And licking the spoon together. Pulling them into bed on a Sunday morning and having a cheeky lie-in together. And giving them a few pennies to buy themselves a treat in the shop. Cheering them on as they master rolling, sitting, crawling, cruising, walking, walking outside, using a cup, using a spoon, putting their own shoes on.

Whatdayisit2 · 07/01/2020 15:13

They're hilarious, loving, fabulous and awesome. Seeing them develop and learn new things, seeing them turn into people that you can have a proper conversation with.., they are worth all the hard work Smile
