To ask you to tell me to get a grip?

Name changed as I just feel pathetic . You’ll probably know who I am anyway 🤣
I’m just over 6 weeks pregnant . 25 Y/o First pregnancy, all very new.
I’ve had nausea and other symptoms just before I got my BFP at 3 weeks, but since approaching 6 weeks I’ve got worse and BAM reached 6 weeks and I can’t eat anything other than crisps and sips of ginger beer and orange juice.
Not told any family I’m PG yet as we want to wait for the scan, but after feeling so poorly last night I just had to call my mum and tell her . Her reaction wasn’t what I’d hoped which upset me a bit but she was ok.
Anyway I just need you to tell me to get a grip because I feel pathetic . I’ve had to take today off work as I’m so sick, can’t stomach food other than crisps thus making me worry I’m going to starve my little bean. Can’t leave my bed.
I’m crying to myself because I feel like I’m letting my team down at work being off, worried it will affect my records, just generally fretting over silly things .
I’m tired , anxious about my scan, I’ve spoken to my GP and he won’t prescribe me anti sickness yet as he says it’s not bad enough and they prefer to wait to see how patients are at 12 weeks. That’s another 6 weeks 🤢😭

Anyway if you know how to cheer an anxious , nauseas, hungry but can’t stomach anything, first time pregnant mum to be then I’d really appreciate it

Thanks in advance

P.S , any recommendations for Netflix / IPlayer or any catch up shows would equally be appreciated . Currently watching Arthur to take my back to my childhood 🤦🏽‍♀️😂

Omg i sympathise with you so much!
I’m currently 21 weeks but when i was 6 weeks i had horrific sickness until 9 weeks. It was horrible but it did pass and so will yours! I lived off salt and vinegar crisp and if i ever fancied anything i had it! Sips of water and also fizzy drinks helped. Baby won’t starve but if you can keep down your pregnancy vitamin that will help :) good luck!!!

@PurpleBee39 not feeling as nauseas this morning after the GP has given me the some meds to take every 8 hours 3 times a day but I woke up in the night and also yesterday evening was miserable . And now I’m full of cold 😟
Starving hungry but can’t stomach any food so no idea what to have , I’m losing weight fast . But I do love that film I might watch that today ! Thank you for checking on me 💕
@excited thank you I do worry that I’m starving the baby as I’ve literally not eaten anything or than something crisps yesterday and a few strawberries !!

Curl up with assorted crisps, and a big glass of orange juice.

Watch whatever you feel like and relax. Listen to your body's needs not what society says is the done thing. Be gentle with yourself, ignore anyone who comments unkindly.

Can you manage any other potato based foods? I spent months when pregnant with.my twins living on plain mash / jacket / chips. Keep hydrated and eat little and often.
Gentle hugs

I'd never tell anyone with 'morning' sickness to get a grip - it's completely debilitating. Constant nausea with intermittent vomiting from the time you open your eyes till the time you go to sleep, it's horrendous.

Find whatever food you can keep down and live off it! One of mine was fizzy vimto and strawberry bonbons - funnily enough my DC from that pregnancy hates fizzy drinks!

My first pregnancy was awful, sick till 7 months, vomiting 10 times a day, carried a plastic bag, bottle of water and wet wipes with me everywhere. Worked on my own in a shop, had to throw up in the bin behind the counter and then serve customers immediately after with tears in my eyes from the retching. My next 2 pregnancies were not as bad and sickness only lasted till about 20 weeks.

You have my complete sympathy.

GaaaaarlicBread · 10/01/2020 07:36

@Minxmumma Orange juice sounds nice . I’ve been signed off work so I’ll be off now for a week so I can just stay in bed . Funny how such a small little bean can make you feel so so sick . I’m worried I’m genuinely going to starve to death . I can’t eat anything . DH has just bought me a cereal bar up and I haven’t even opened it 😭

@woooooo wow how did you cope ? That’s horrendous I’m so sorry you went through that, and still managed to run a shop! And good on you for not letting it put you off future pregnancies x

Groovee · 10/01/2020 07:50

I'd go back to the GP.

I could only have chips for weeks in my first pregnancy... she is 20 this month and hates chips 😂 unless they are nandos.

Hoping it eases soon. It took 19 weeks for me. I remember my dad seeing ne when I was 21 weeks and he said "thank god you look normal again, you've been grey for weeks!"

HelpMeGetAGrip · 10/01/2020 07:53

Forgot to NC on above comment , oh well you’ve all been very supportive so I don’t feel like I need to hide now .
I only went to the GP yesterday so can’t go back yet as I’ve not given the meds long enough to work . I just can’t bear not eating . It’s all I can think about to the point where I feel physically sick for thinking about food too much . I think this baby will hate crisps and ginger beer . I’ll give it a week and if I still can’t eat I’ll need to go to get help I think . But what more can they do? 😟 DH says I’m a shell of who I once was but I just don’t feel like me and I have zero energy to be the usual me

With my first pregnancy I was off work for 4 days when I felt too nauseous to sit up or stand but I was much better after that. I still felt nauseous and was sometimes sick but it was much more manageable. I was also panicking “what if i stay like this?”. I hope it improves quickly for you too. If it doesn’t see your GP.

Make sure your absence is recorded as pregnancy related and then it is not allowed to count against you like your usual sick record.

GaaaaarlicBread · 10/01/2020 08:09

@Winter2020 it’s going to be a long 33 weeks of it doesn’t get better . I’ve asked myself too ‘will I be like this the whole time?’ And I actually felt quite depressed . I actually think I might be getting depressed . I’m so bloody hungry and weak .
I’m glad you got better . Work have documented it as Pregnancy complications xx

Nanny0gg · 10/01/2020 08:15

I'm sorry, it's horrible but you can't fight it. Whatever you can tolerate, eat, but try not to worry that mostly, you can't.

Hbs21 · 10/01/2020 08:24

Hoping things get better for you! I'm currently 26 weeks pregnant so this bit feels like yesterday and it was honestly grim. I couldn't even go in my kitchen as for some reason the smell of the room made me sick. This carried on for weeks and I felt insane lol. It will get better and just remember it's all worth it. Just be kind to yourself! Eat what you can and stay hydrated.

Oh and Living With Yourself is very good - it's in Netflix :)

madmother1 · 10/01/2020 08:27

Ginger biscuits!

GaaaaarlicBread · 10/01/2020 08:28

@hb thank you lovely . I can’t wait to get to the second trimester . I can’t help feeling like it’s going to be a long 6 weeks from now-well 5 really as I’m almost 7 weeks.
Will I harm the baby by not eating much now? Honestly yesterday I consumed just over 100 calories and only in crisps! Taking folic acid but stopped Pregnecare as it made me feel worse

WorldsOnFire · 10/01/2020 08:30

Oh OP
I could have written your post (honestly the only difference is I’m a year older and my DM was jumping for joy) everything else exactly the same!

I spent the first 20 weeks of this pregnancy as you described. Crying, starving, worrying and sick as a dog- signed off work.

The best advice I could give it get all the support available to you, I’ve been to my GP a million times 😂
Lose 100% of the guilt (seriously you do not need to worry about work right now) and stop focusing on when and how it will get better... just try the meds they give you and otherwise strap in for a long ride!!

At least we know it will end eventually!

woooooo · 10/01/2020 12:33

wow how did you cope ? That’s horrendous I’m so sorry you went through that, and still managed to run a shop! And good on you for not letting it put you off future pregnancies x*

You just become adept at dealing with it, avoiding certain smells and foods, I became adept at chucking up too! Was prescribed Complan by the doctor, some days I couldn't keep that down. I think they still make it? (It was 27 years ago!) The chocolate one was nice.

My next pregnancy was 13 years later! Then 4 years after that.

woooooo · 10/01/2020 12:34

Sorry the 1st paragraph should have been in bold
