To think that comparing breast cancer survivors to men is disgusting

I kid you not - the Scottish government in their Gender Reform Act consultation is arguing that because women with “non normative bodies” such as women with mastectomies share spaces where women are undressed and vulnerable, then other “non normative women’s bodies” (ie: men with penis and testicles) shouLd also be included.

Oh, and of course a nice bit of homophobia saying that because lesbians are allowed to use women’s spaces then straight men should be too.

From the SCOTTISH GOVERNMENT - not some loony on tumblr

I’m a gay woman. I’m not any kind of threat to other women in changing rooms or anywhere else.

Don't even think about it Winged. women know that.

I don't think any women have an issue with a gay woman changing beside them, a man dressed as a woman is not the same, it invades a woman's personal space.

BitOfFun · 10/01/2020 23:50

Gah, I was searching for ages to post that link, UnusualSuspicion, and you've beaten me to it!

Sagradafamiliar · 10/01/2020 23:51

Double well done, it must have taken some effort to sound so fucking stupid.

BorneoBabe · 10/01/2020 23:56

This is a huge crossover issue. Parties need to wake the fuck up.

My working class neighbour stopped voting Labour over many things, but last week told me one of the main reasons was because 'a teenage boy' was appointed women's officer. She expressed anger and bewilderment that women's voices were being excluded, while party leaders were crowing about inclusivity. "Let them have their own officer and we'll have ours".

This is someone who isn't politically active at all, but still heard about it. It's not going unnoticed.

"To think that comparing breast cancer survivors to men is disgusting "

You know that men can and do get breast cancer don't you?

Justanotherlurker · 11/01/2020 00:13

Name a more iconic duo of the the left and eating itself.

These types of threads will go down in history, what was once considered a talking point of the far right is in fact an example of the horse shoe theory and why recent trends of homophobia hate crimes in london doesn't correlate to persived scapegoats.

NearlyGranny · 11/01/2020 00:19

...because everyone knows someone who's been raped by a missing breast.

Oh, wait.

Sagradafamiliar · 11/01/2020 00:20

Sonichu the OP was clearly talking about female breast cancer survivors....

pallisers · 11/01/2020 00:33

You know that men can and do get breast cancer don't you?

Yeah because that is what this thread is about. Seriously do better in your derails

Sonichu · 11/01/2020 00:36

Not trying to derail anything, the title of this is at best clumsy and at worst offensive.

ActualHornist · 11/01/2020 00:41

The cognitive dissonance on this is astounding.

So on the one hand, the government can recognise that a woman with no breasts is still a woman.

But somehow, a man with no penis is not still a man?!

I am utterly disgusted.

I can’t tell if a woman changing next to me is gay or not, and it doesn’t matter because I don’t fear rape from a gay woman.

No matter how well they think they pass, a trans woman is always identifiable as a male; and yes I would fear a man in the changing rooms.

justcly · 11/01/2020 00:42

@DoubleFunMum:

I'm really pleased for you that it makes no difference to you. It makes a difference to me. Following a horrendous experience where I was beaten, raped and throttled, that lasted four hours the sight of a penis in a space that I have every right to consider safe, would induce a complete breakdown.

astralweaks · 11/01/2020 00:54

Unbelievable. 🙄

Ishotmrburns · 11/01/2020 02:48

You know that men can and do get breast cancer don't you?

So? That doesn't change anything that the OP has written.

aurynne · 11/01/2020 02:57

They either do not understand the concerns or they simply refuse to understand.

Women are not scared of being attacked by a transgender person.

They are scared of being attacked by a man, who only says he identifies as a woman in order to attack women.

It is really not that hard to understand.

MonopolyDog · 11/01/2020 03:11

@MumW yep, change it from male/female to penis/vagina!

MonopolyDog · 11/01/2020 03:15

I couldn't care less if a lesbian/bi woman was changing/showering/whatever next to me. I've never been hurt, threatened or raped by a woman. Gay/bi women have been nothing but respectful to me when they've spoken to me, they've never turned violent when I've said no thanks to a date/their number. I can't believe some people think gay/bi women are 'the same' as men and I'm not even going to get started on the shit about women who've had a mastectomy.

BlueCornsihPixie · 11/01/2020 11:20

Gay women are not a threat. Come on we know this, if you are alone in a lift with a lesbian do you feel scared? No.

I have never been made to feel
uncomfortable by a gay woman. No gay woman has ever touched me inappropriately, touched my waist, arse etc. Made a comment about me. Literally none.

Men all the fucking time. Every fucking day I swear a man makes some comment or touches me innapropriately. Including gay men!

Women who have had mastectomys do not have non-normative bodies! They have just had their breasts removed. Their bodies are still female just because they don't have breasts! Its a vile thing to say. Just like a man whose had his penis removed is still a man, and not really a non-normative body (sorry I did actually compare there! Grin)

A non-normative body would be someone born with 3 arms. Even then, obviously have no problem with a woman with 3 arms. It's nothing to do with whether they are 'normative' or not, it's if they were born with a dick or not. Honestly how hard do these people have to try.

NumbersStation · 11/01/2020 11:28

Some are too busy trying to be inclusive that they fail to realise that they are being exclusive.

Yet again, not following the will of the people. I would posit the notion that the individuals who voted were falling over themselves to appear all inclusive and with it - without realising they are selling the rights of women right down the Clyde.
