New job and haven't a clue

Hi all
I started a new job today and whilst I wouldn't expect to know it all, I feel like I haven't a clue what to do. Would love to run away from it all. Need reassurance that this is normal...?

*thinking

I'm one term into a new job and still feel like I don't know my arse from my elbow but I definitely know how to deflect things now, so I don't look completely clueless. I'm always worried I ask too many questions though.

Started new job last month. First day I was so over whelmed I thought about not going back. Glad I did now. Adding bits to those I know every few days and I'm alot more confident. Just remember if it seems alot or your unsure ask for help.

I'm starting a new job next month! Maybe we could start some sort of new job moral support thread!

Atilathehunter · 08/01/2020 22:15

I feel like this IS the moral support thread. For me today was marginally better than yesterday. Only marginally. I hate not knowing what I’m doing, what systems contain which information etc. I find it hard to ask because I’m a “senior hire” and asking basic questions might have them wondering why they hired me at all. But I don’t feel so bad about going in tomorrow.

I’m so glad that I found this thread. I started a new job mid-December and still don’t really feel like I know what I’m doing. I’m also a senior hire and I feel like I should already know it all! Although my boss is very nice she expects me to take the job and run with it and the work certainly being piled on.

@Atilathehunter I get that feeling. You are expected to hit the ground running the further up you go. Luckily for me the chief exec here is quite new and has never done this side of the business before, so he's clueless too 😂

Today was day 4, and was OK, after an awful day yesterday. I lost a filling in the morning and was plagued by hideous nerve pain all morning. Managed to get it under control with strong pain killers(they're for my arthritis and i never take them at work, they addle my brain), so I felt like I was spangled for the rest of the day then.

Today I managed to replicate a very long and complicated logistics process that I was shown yesterday, whilst spangled, and I didn't fuck it up. Yay!
