Friend's Dog

I have a friend who had the world's most annoying dog, it's actually beyond annoying, it's a fucking liability. It's a terrier-cross that he paid silly money for, looks like an ewok, very sweet.

But he hasn't trained it at all, it bounces at you, to neck height again and again and again, boing, boing, boing. It claws your clothes and does not calm down ever. He lets it go for my cats (I keep them in another room now when he visits), he feeds it from his fork and lets it sit at the dinner table despite me asking time and time again that he doesn't. It's got terrible separation anxiety so when he leaves the room, it scratches the buggery out of my doors. It jumps up, on your knee, all over you whenever. IT DOESN'T STOP. It's very reactive to other dogs and goes for them constantly. In short, it's a fooking nightmare. I've been suggesting for some time that he takes it to classes or a behaviourist or something, anything.

As a cherry on the bloody cake, he's bought a 'Support Animal' luminous coat that he puts on it and then embarrassingly insists it has to have access to every-fucking-where, which nice people then let it in and it behaves appalingly.

I actually really love dogs, I adore them, I think this dog is being very badly served, and consequently it's an embarrassment.

I told my friend to 'Sort your fucking dog out' after one incident too many and he's gone all bloody nasty at me, I'm not being U though am I?

I’m a dog person.
Your friend is a dog nut!

ILikeyourHairyHands · 05/01/2020 22:25

I actually told him, I'm not going anywhere if you insist the dog comes.

He also brought it when we had friends on Boxing Day, it kept harrasing a friend of mine and he told my other friend 'Just hit it, it's what she understands', my other friend said 'I'm not really comfortable with that' so the dog just kept harassing him. It was at that point I told him to 'Sort your fucking dog out'.

Well done you!

CrazyKitkatLady · 05/01/2020 22:29

He sounds like a terrible owner. I feel sorry for the dog and anyone else who has to be near it! YADNBU to tell him to sort it out, he sounds really inconsiderate.

ILikeyourHairyHands · 05/01/2020 22:29

PLUS on Boxing Day I asked when he came in, 'can you keep her on the lead because I've got a buffet out', he assured me he would, AND LET HER OFF WITHIN FIVE MINUTES AND SHE WAS ON THE FUCKING TABLE LICKING THE HAM.

Chocolateandchats · 05/01/2020 22:30

That’s terrible! As a dog owner you take ownership of your dog. Good for you for calling him out on it. YADNBU

ILikeyourHairyHands · 05/01/2020 22:31

I feel sorry for the dog too, she's a terrier-cross, clearly needs some mental stimulation and training. Gets a five minute walk twice a day. Has never been socialised with other dogs. She's going nuts.

My dog is a TEENY bit like this but she’s 3kg and teeeeeny - ankle height.

Also, whilst I take her to friends houses, it’s ONLY those who are happy with it!!
Most of my bestest friends have dogs and she lives with 2 cats so would be fine BUT it’d scare other cats
Your friend is a dick

Pipandmum · 05/01/2020 22:31

Do not let him bring the dog to your house. End of.

Wolfiefan · 05/01/2020 22:32

Refuse to see the friend without the dog. Ever.
I love dogs but that’s completely inappropriate.

Justontherightsideofnormal · 05/01/2020 22:33

Why let the dog round??!

Thehop · 05/01/2020 22:34

I love dogs, but hate shit wank dog owners like your friend.

ILikeyourHairyHands · 05/01/2020 22:38

Well, he doesn't go anywhere without her, I've known him for 25 years and he's had a shitty time so I was a bit relaxed about the whole thing because I thought a dog might be good for him. But he's just not trained or socialised her at all. He lets her sit in the front seat of his car unrestrained and she just bounces around the car whilst he's driving. It's madness and I actually think it will be worse for his mental health because no one will want to spend time with him anymore.

But he won't listen.

ParanoidGynodroid · 05/01/2020 22:38

Sorry, but is your friend pretending that his dog has some sort of official support/assistance role?

That can’t be legal, surely?

Butchyrestingface · 05/01/2020 22:39

he feeds it from his fork and lets it sit at the dinner table

There but for the grace of God go I.

Aherm. Blush

YANBU. The emotional support coat thing would fucking annoy me.

Is this a ‘special’ friend, OP? If so, don’t have kids with him.

ILikeyourHairyHands · 05/01/2020 22:40

Yes, it's legal. 'Emotional support animals' have no attendant legislation, it just relies on kindness and ignorance.

OP posts:
PiafPilaf · 05/01/2020 22:43

For starters you can tell him it’s illegal to have a dog either unrestrained or not in the boot behind a dog guard (for the safety of him, the dog, and other road users). I am a complete dog nut and he sounds like a bad owner! I can’t stand it when people let their dogs do what they like - it does the dog no favours at all. I also realise that not everyone likes dogs, so while people have to accept when they come to mine that I have a dog, I still don’t let her jump all over them and I keep her on the lead if necessary (she’s still quite young and a bit bouncy), and I would NEVER insist she had to come with me to someone else’s house - that’s just rude. You are definitely not BU!

Butterer, do we have the same friend?

It really frustrates me that people have tendency not to properly train small dogs.

Gawd no, it's not a 'special friend' Butchy, he's a a gay man (although in the bitchy-camp mode, that quite frankly I'm a little bit over as a middle-age woman).

Terror-cross works Butterer.

I've always found whippets quite docile and sweet. WTF has your friend done to it?
