To not want to take my Christmas tree down?

Cwenthryth · 05/01/2020 21:20

It’s been on to-do list all day and I’ve been avoiding it. Working late tomorrow hence it ‘having’ to come down today to hit the deadline of the 6th, or demons will get me (or something?)

But it’s so nice and twinkly and cheerful! And it’s so grey and dark and sad everywhere still! I don’t want it to be January and grey and cold and stark and all the cosy twinkliness gone

YANBU. I took mine down on new year's day and felt very miserable indeed

MisterT373 · 05/01/2020 22:50

I've just been on an hour drive locally to see the lights for the last time. January is tough enough and I get really down when the lights disappear.

In some parts of Eastern Europe they keep the lights up until 2nd February!

Maybe trees can come down on epiphany but it would be nice to keep outdoor lights up until February!

Cwenthryth · 05/01/2020 22:52

Sod it, it’s staying up. Come at me evil pixies Xmas Grin

Good for you. I felt so sad today taking ours down even though we’ve left some lights up. I’ve just been trying to convince my husband to bring ours back inside until 2 February on reading this thread.

Cryalot2 · 05/01/2020 22:55

I am dreading taking ours down tomorrow.
We have lights over curtain pole in kitchen and they are plain ones which daughter and I want to keep up all the time but dh is not having it Sad
Hope the elves clear off.

Tillygetsit · 05/01/2020 23:11

Mine came down today and what a relief. My fault because I go overboard on decs. It was like Santas grotto on acid!

Retroflex · 05/01/2020 23:17

Mine is still up, didn't get around to taking it down today and I will be in hospital tomorrow, so it will be down when I'm fit enough Hmm

Camomila · 05/01/2020 23:28

Waited till DS was asleep then took down the tree and all decorations, then left DSs stocking for epiphany tomorrow at the foot of his bed.
One of my favourite traditions, on the day all the festivities finish the 'befana' leaves you a sock full of treats. She makes DS a special visit from Italy as I'm Italian Grin

Jaxhog · 05/01/2020 23:28

Don't worry, the world won't end if you leave it up a bit longer! Mine's still up.

123Holly · 05/01/2020 23:34

Mine comes down the day after Boxing Day Blush

TheWorldturnedUpsideDown · 05/01/2020 23:37

I've never felt dictated by other people's dates and nos.
I take mine down when I want or the dc etc want. Definitely not doing mine till at least past this weekend..

TheWorldturnedUpsideDown · 05/01/2020 23:38

I can't live my life according to dates.

How can you say it comes down on x date what if you wanted it up later!!

IthinkIsawahairbrushbackthere · 05/01/2020 23:38

I'm wondering if I can get away with keeping them up until the Welsh New Year on the 14th....

girlicorne · 05/01/2020 23:40

I think Christmas trees and Christmas lights should actually be renamed winter trees and lights and we should all put them up after Halloween and leave them until the clocks change in March, including the council ones along the high streets! They are so uplifting and everything just looks so bleak and depressing now.

NaomifromMilshake · 05/01/2020 23:58

I am on round three of chemo, even when I was coming up to good bit energy wise( the chemo heads know Grin) I had very little energy.

The tree was eight foot and had a thousand lights, it is beautiful. (she said modestly Grin)

I took all the baubles off yesterday, and I am slowly de Christmasing the house.

We have a brown bin collection on the 15th, they take Christmas trees on that collection, THE TREE AND IT'S 1000 LIGHTS WILL BE TAKEN DOWN AND REMOVED FROM MY COLD DEAD HANDS... (Charlton Heston NRA) Grin

It is a beautifully piece of green and light and I for one will miss it.

NaomifromMilshake · 06/01/2020 00:07

Meant to add that because I was so wrecked it only had 14 mahoosive glass baubles from Costco on it and seven New Bridge silver decorations. QED

So denuded but still lit for now.

Cwenthryth · 06/01/2020 00:12

You keep your 1000 lights up as long as you bloody well like, Naomi.

Fuck cancer.

Thank you @Cwen

TheWorldturnedUpsideDown · 06/01/2020 00:15

Girl that's how I view Xmas now, human spirits pure desire to keep hope alive through light in the depths of darkness...

Thehagonthehillwithtinsel · 06/01/2020 00:24

I am taking the cards down tommorrow but might leave the tree until Tuesday. The lights are staying though.
I will miss the pine smell though and will have to get the choppers out to make it small enough to take to the dump.It has been a good tree and dropped no needles.

Cwenthryth · 06/01/2020 00:28

Missing my parents old place where they had a proper fire, so the Christmas tree (complete with needles) would get chopped up and used as firewood through Jan & Feb, and it smelt all Christmassy still.

I keep my sunroom ones up all year , leave the big curtains over the French widows between the room open and enjoy the twinkles !
Bunting stays up as well but this “newspaper “ bunting has been replaced with a white lace paper one .

To not want to take my Christmas tree down?
Dita73 · 06/01/2020 01:02

I hate taking mine down but not for the same reasons as you. It’s just such a pain in the arse! I’ve spent the day trying to find missing baubles and attempting to put lights neatly in a box! Another thing I seem to do every year is find a decoration or something that I think is adorable and immediately put it up in the house. Of course post Christmas not only have you got to try and find room to store the thing but it also now looks like a load of tacky crap! I’m now furious with myself and I’m wondering what the hell I was I thinking and vowing never to do it again. We all know I will.

Stillfunny · 06/01/2020 01:16

Took all weekend to take mine down. And it us not all away in the attic yet. Counted 6 large containers of stuff. Definitely too many things , but that includes cushions, throws , tablecloths, etc. House seems huge now.
I personally hate seeing Xmas decorations up too long .Seems sad and tired to me.

ChocolateCoins19 · 06/01/2020 01:25

I love my Tree. I had done it so pretty... Then toddler discovered how to re arrange it... And pull it and everything else.

This Yr by boxing night I took it down.. I think if I hadn't it would of been pulled down.. It felt horrible being so early but in the other hand.. Now don't need eyes in my arse hole regarding the tree and have space for the silly amount of toys
