Dog urinating on bush

So, on the local FB page someone has a large front garden. About 3 ft into the garden they have a rose bush (they planted it, it's of sentimental value and they've had it 20 years moved from another property). no wall, no fence, local dogs keep weeing on it, they do go into the garden to do it.

The home owners are threatening legal action, they're using CCTV to fond culprits.

I am not involved, but locals are but who if anyone IBU?

Dog owners unreasonable. I’d keep my dog on the path or let him go on the grass verge next to the path and people’s fences but not onto their property. It’s not difficult.
If you were talking about a bush half on/half off the property, I’d try my best not to have him wee on the off property side but they like to piss on other dog piss as their own version of social media.

The law of the rural countryside is that it is your place to protect your property. You are to fence and gate if you want nothing in.
Yet as a dog owner, I think all dogs should be kept on a lead in public and not allowed to toilet other peoples property.

There is no knowing the law.

I honestly think the dog owners are being unreasonable. I have 2 myself and would never dream of allowing them to urinate in someone else's garden. However
I live in an area with lots of dogs, and one of my neighbours has a dog who will only do the toilet in my garden! I know the owner quite well, and she's a lovely older lady who was so embarrassed and flustered with her dog, but I'm absolutely fine with it, because she always picks up after her dog, so I guess it depends on the circumstances.

Dog peeing on a border wall or hedge - fine

Dog entering private garden to pee on a plant / bush inside garden - not fine

Put up a temporary fence. Some garden canes and a bit of netting would do.

Or you can buy a pet scarer water jet thingy that connects to your hose which you could position near the bush, and when anything comes past it over your grass then it will schoosh water out. Prob best for summer use though!

Just don’t have it pointing towards the path or the postie will get it in the leg!Grin
