To ask about microfibre towels

spingly · 04/01/2020 22:27

My towels at home need replacing, I have a microfibre towel for the gym and love it. Would you replace your home towels with them?

If not, why not?

If you would, why?

Thank you.

I had one before and i hated it, it didn't even dry me just spread the water droplets around

"Good old cotton" is not environmentally friendly to grow
And the "thick fluffy towels" use masses of power and cleaned water to wash and dry.

I bought some micro fibre towels for swimming. They are space saving. They don't dry me very well. I bought some micro fibre tea towels- much longer pile, feel horrible- like they catch on your skin. They don't do a good job of drying the dishes. Quickly relegated to floor cloths.

Hamman towels are good. I use mine for camping.

Stinkycatbreath · 05/01/2020 08:19

We replaced all hours. Total gamechanger less bulk too

FreedomfromPE · 05/01/2020 08:33

I use stretchy cotton wraps. We don't have a tumble dryer anyway so brushed cotton would just end up stiff.

CeeceeBloomingdale · 05/01/2020 08:39

We tried them and hated them. I don't find them very absorbent and DH who has more body hair finds them useless. I do like hammam towels though.

Much prefer microfibre towels.

Don’t use fabric conditioner when washing. It stops them drying as well and makes them feel a lot harsher. Much better washed with just detergent.

AhoyMrBeaver · 05/01/2020 08:54

I got some decent large hammam towels from Amazon last year for a couple of £ each.

Using microfibre towels is like trying to dry yourself with a fleece jumper. The moisture will be wicked away eventually, but it tends to just move it around on your skin until that happens. You get that cold clammy film trapped beneath - ugh!

stripeypillowcase · 05/01/2020 08:58

we use them for swimming/camping

I wouldn't replace our normal towels at home with them.

BeckyButters · 05/01/2020 09:04

From a sustainable point of view no. I have some for swimming etc but won't buy any more. Saying that my oldest is 20 years old now and still fine.

Hamman towels are really cheap on eBay. I use those for my beach towels.

Ylvamoon · 05/01/2020 09:13

Just thought I post an other link for Haman towels.

We love them and use them for home, gym and holiday.

We use hammam towels for swimming, camping and as a beach towel in summer. They are light and roll up small. We also use the smaller ones as hand towels in the bathroom.
There are tons of sellers on Etsy. Mine are from this company www.ottomania.nl/en/webshop/1-13/hammam-towels-hammam-towel-standard-size-(170x100-cm)/

The feeling microfibre gives me when it snags on any area of dry skin, like my feet, makes me want to die a bit.
