"Annoying" FB statuses

Not a TAAT exactly but I have seen this a lot recently on here and elsewhere. People seem to be intensely annoyed by any sort of ambiguious upset/angry status which prompts the "you ok?/what's happened?/u ok hun?" replies and inevitably an "I'll PM you". Everyone seems to find this the epitome of annoying and attention seeking. AIBU to think that considering we are all seemingly much more mental health aware and almost all of us are urging people to 'just talk to someone' if we are feeling rubbish, the hatred of these statuses is a tad hypocritical? Maybe these people are attention seeking, but maybe they also don't feel okay to just message someone out of the blue and are reaching out for someone who actually wants them to talk. And no, I haven't made one of these statuses rececently, but I probably did in my teens when I was feeling pretty down and pretty lonely.

I don't think anyone would begrudge someone who was genuinely struggling reaching out for help. The people who leave ambiguous Facebook statuses are usually people who aren't struggling (beyond feeling slightly irritated by something minor) and enjoy the attention of being deliberately cryptic.

I imagine many FB statuses (including my own) have some kind of attention seeking need behind them. I agree that people should try to be kind to each other (so don't attack the person ON the status, for example), but think people are entitled to their pet annoyances, and when listed on an anonymous forum, they usually come across as lighthearted mockery rather than hatred.

Yep. I never respond to these sorts of attention seeking posts as it nearly always comes out later on in a more public post that the big drama related to 'what do I have for lunch/couldn't get a decent car park at the shops/a finger nail broke', or some other irrelevant occurrence..
