AIBU?

AIBU to ask at what age did you start to look 'old' and what did you do about it?

Shamelessly posting her for traffic as I am now fed up of ALWAYS looking tired.

I am 43 and I think I now look 'old'. Of course those little lines have been gradually creeping up over the years and at times I've looked in the mirror and thought I looked a bit haggard, but, with a bit of make up and extra sleep, things have always fallen back into place and/or make up hid them.

Seriously - at what age did you get the crows feet, laughter lines and bags? And what did you do about it?

I have worn sunscreen for a few years but didn't as a youngster. I have never smoked and I don't drink much (although used to). I sleep pretty well and work out regularly. I take my make up off each night and put on moisturiser. My diet is reasonable. I admit I'm not exactly obsessed with maintenance but I don't think I'm neglectful of myself either. I work long hours in a stressful job.

Genuinely interested to hear of anybody who has succeeded in making themselves look less tired or any anti ageing tips I'm missing!

Question for all of you who have Botox and fillers at (what I think) are young ages, in your 30s and 40s. I honestly didn't think I was aging at that age. Am now 53 nearly 54 and do now see slight jowls and a 'worried' look on my face. So - if you have Botox that young does it have any cumulative affect, keeping lines and shape in check for future years or is it very right here right now. Iyswim
Sorry to be dim!

Sorry - am not meaning to come across as judgy. It really is an individual thing. And some faces do age worse than others. What I'm really trying to ask is, would I look better now if ten years ago I'd started to have work which I didn't necessarily need then?

Try a face oil & stop worrying about it!

And please don't inject POISON into your face! 🙏

I would inject poison in to my forehead if it worked, but the last time I had it done I almost instantly (within a week) noticed a droop in the hood in the inner corners of my eyes. Like a tiny bag. Nobody else would have noticed it but it was ageing. So I thought ffs, no more botox. I liked the smooth forehead effect but not the droop in my inner eye lid.s

@TheoneandObi I agree with you. At forty I looked in the mirror and couldn't really SEE signs of ageing. I had looked after myself, lived healthily, but I wasn't ''hating'' on the very very minimal signs of ageing that weren't noticeable really. I was quite delighted with myself at forty, ha ha.

I'm 49 now. I still don't think I look awful but I do have jowls :-(

TheoneandObi · 18/01/2020 09:22

I'm not sure if I was 'delighted"! But what I saw didn't bother me. I'm not sure it bothers me that much now tbh. But I literally know NOTHING about botox etc. And wonder whether one of the reasons ppl have it so young is that it somehow helps keep the shape of the face. I have recently lost a couple of stone in weight so that might be why there are now slight jowls. But honestly they're ok I think. And the weight loss is making me feel more energetic and younger - more like my old self! Weights and squats too help - they keep that bum perky!

I wish I’d started Botox at 30 although couldn’t afford it then with kids etc. it’s now preventative rather than restoration if that makes sense. I think with regards to the test vs the forehead thing, there’s always a price to pay. Always none of us are perfect, I’ve worked with models who aren’t perfect,
That’s not what we are aiming for, the best version of me is all I wsnt

That should say eyes vs forehead

@Lippy1234 are you in the UK? Could you pm me some details as I’m so unhappy with the downward droop. My skin otherwise is quite good. Thanks

God, I'm younger than the lot of you, and although most of the women I work with are a good bit older than me, I wouldn't say any of them look old. My mum will be 60 in a few years and she doesn't look old. I mean you couldn't mistake them for a 25 year old, but they all take a lot of care of themselves, are fairly health conscious, haven't gone overboard with smoking and drinking, and dress well. They're far from looking "old", in my opinion.

I think familial genetics play a part in looking/not looking old. I'm 75 now and people often say I look a lot younger. Both my mother and my maternal grandmother had beautiful skin and a youthful glow. They died in their late eighties and looked good until the end.

I'm 38 and notice it a lot more now. When I smile, especially seeing photos the lines around my eyes are so prominent. They aren't noticeable when I don't smile, although due my 2nd baby in 2 years may have aged me fasterConfused

I'm 41. I have no idea if I look old or not. I barely look in the mirror other than to put lenses in. I manage the aging process but giving it no headspace at all!

I have come to the conclusion that ageing (or lack of it showing, or merely looking good for your age) is down to 3 things. Genetics, Attitude and Money.

I'm very lucky< i have good genes, a young at heart attitude and a bit of money to spend on good clothes/hair and skincare.

I'm 57, dress to suit myself (my style heroine is Iris Apfel mixed with a bit of Jo Wood) I keep my hair as white as the bleach will go and take my make-up off regardless of how late it is.

My dd told me in the summer that the skin on my face is amazing, hardly any wrinkles but she did add that I have the worst earlobes in the world Grin years of heavy earrings have done for them, hey ho!

I am 45. I had a bout of adult acne in my mid 30s and was prescribed Differin (retinoids). My acne is gone but I have carried on using The Differin, which I think has helped keep the wrinkles at bay. Over the last year I have noticed eye bags and slight jowls. The jowls are really depressing 🙁

I have started using the clarins blue lotus face oil and Pixi Glow - I alternate them over 3 days along with the Differin. Since I have started this my skin is a lot softer and more glowy.

Turned 43 recently and I swear in the last 12 months my face has gone from looking the way it did in my 20's to resembling a melted welly.

I avoid mirrors.

It’s ok to embrace the ageing process. Many people don’t get the chance to ever look ‘old’. We should all enjoy life while we can, wrinkles and all.

"Schools must stay open"

Much as i agree with this, something needs to be done about the infection rate in schools, especially secondaries. It is abundantly clear that secondary school age kids are now the most infected age group and kids at my school have lost parents as a result:(

If they can mass test 68 councils they should start mass testing in schools. Hopefully this can stop kids goingb in and out like yoyo's. Some kids I teach are now self isolating for the 4th time!

I noticed it at 37 but I think it was slowly happening since my thyroid went under, it just took me a while to notice. My body was screwed, 4 stone weight gain, fatigue, aches etc. So I decided to keep my face and went for botox on my eyes and fillers on my cheeks , glabella line and to stop my increasingly down-turned mouth.

I'm so glad I have the option to have these things. I'm not ready to lose my youthful face, particularly because I lost my health and my poor body has gone through so much.

For skin care I alternate creams, ROC deep wrinkle on my eyes, aldi lacura day and night creams, and I make my own cocoa butter and shea butter cream.

Weight loss and growing my hair helped too.

But really nothing works except the botox and fillers. I really recommend them, they can look really natural, it doesnt have to look fake or OTT if you get a good practitioner and are clear you want subtle and natural. People tell me I look 'well', ask if I'm using some new cream or makeup.

I’m 59. My skin and hair are pretty good, it’s the jowls and droopy eyelids that let me down.

I'm 51 and don't have bags, crows feet or laughter lines. I've always looked way younger than my years.

I don’t have bags either. They aren’t really to do with ageing, sometimes young people have them. You just either have them or you don’t.

Nowt wrong with laughter lines IMO.
