Going away for weekend with friends

I’ve always met up with a group of friends once a year for a weekend away. In recent years as the dc are now older (10 and 12), we’ve upped it to twice a year. The only other time I spend a night away from home is maybe a couple times a year for work.

We’ve already booked a weekend away this summer. Dh was not particularly happy because he does a lot of cycling in the summer, but there wasn’t anything in the diary. However, now it turns out that there is a big event that weekend that he wants to go to.

AIBU for booking a weekend away in the summer as that’s when dh likes to go cycling?

PianoTuner567 · 03/01/2020 22:37

Oh dear. He’ll get organised quicker next year.

Enjoy your weekend away with your friends!

Are selfish twats drawn to competitive cycling or does cycling turn people into selfish twats? YANBU

Don't attempt to cancel your weekend. Don't even engage in conversation about that weekend. If he wishes to go on his cycling weekend then it's up to him to sort the kids. If this happens then you do nothing to assist in arranging the kids prior to leaving the house for your weekend - be that organising beds for relatives to stay and mind them, or pack their bags if they are going to stay elsewhere.

First come, first served here.

So if he had a cycling (yawn) event booked and then you suddenly realised it clashed with a big event for you, would he be posting the question 'AIBU to go cycling?'

I bet not! So no, YANBU. He just needs to find childcare for that weekend, there's no need for him to be upset surely? Confused

BOLLOCKS to this. He doesn't get too bagsie the whole fucking summer. The best time to go away given the better more reliable weather and ability to do all sorts of things outside, plus longer lighter evenings to sit in the sun. And if he thinks it's reasonable to expect this he needs to fuck right off.

Its not always cyclists - its usually football or rugby fans.
