  1. What sells best?
  2. If you’re selling something new and sealed but unused do you still have to mark the price down quite a bit?
  3. Any do’s or don’ts? Mainly dont’s would be good
Thanks!

Have you had a good read of the ebay forums? There's lots of great information on there (though people will laugh at the idea they'd tell you what sells well for them Grin)

They're especially good at advice on avoiding problems and solving those that still crop up.

I stopped selling there in 2016- two returns in the same where I still had to cover postage one way because buyer's hadn't read the advert, in order to avoid strikes/fraudulent claims was enough for me.

1. What sells best?

Anything and everything, things you think no one would be interested in will surprise you.

2. If you’re selling something new and sealed but unused do you still have to mark the price down quite a bit?

It depends. Is the item still being sold, then mark down slightly. If the item isn't being sold anymore it could actually be worth more than the original price. Research is key.

3. Any do’s or don’ts? Mainly dont’s would be good

Don't sell as an auction, always use the buy it now option. My second don't, is don't follow the estimated postage that Ebay suggests.

Also regarding postage, always choose the tracked option. Most Ebayers aren't scammers, but treat them like they are and you won't get scammed.

whatever your item is put it in the search bar this will bring up the same items and what people are trying to sell for, then go down the side bar on the left and click completed listings the green ones are what items actually sold for this gives you a good idea of what to put your item on for, I run the ebay page for a cat charity and we do all auctions so buy it now isn't always the best,
we schedule our listings for Thursday evenings for ten days to end on a sunday evening as this is a night when people are looking

I don’t sell but I buy a lot!

  1. Well known brands sell well. Are you thinking about selling clothes, tech, something else? Whatever you sell, it will sell better if buyers have heard of it because they search by brand name.
  1. You don’t have to, but you need to be competitive. Buyers will compare your price with everyone else’s. I’m happy to pay a bit more if a seller has 100% positive feedback or offers free delivery, but I won’t pay a great deal more than the lowest price available.
  1. Don’t refuse returns. I’ve never returned anything but I like to know I can if I need to. There’s no point insisting you’re a private seller or that people should know what size they are in every brand of clothing. Just take it on the chin (unpopular advice, but fairly practical if you want to avoid drama). Do provide accurate measurements wherever possible. Do dispatch when you say you will. Do use Royal Mail, or offer click and collect if you use an alternative courier. I’ve given up expecting Hermes to deliver to any location except my recycling bin.

Hope you make some good sales!

I find the option of click and collect very helpful as I'm always at work for parcels. I get my items sent to my local argos in sainsburys.

Don't take the mick with postage some sellers over charge which puts me off buying. Last time I sold on ebay it gave me a recommendation price for postage.

I often use ebay and get some bargains. When you sell the money adds up and its important to use PayPal, just remember that ebay do take a cut of your profit and send you an invoice depending on how much you've made.
