Plus other cold symptoms. I was all full of sympathy until he played a sport on Wednesday which took place outdoor and he was barefoot in the sand (Guildford,UK).
Aibu telling him he can’t complained anymore ? He was well enough to play an outdoor sport on Wednesday ? Thank you

How much sympathy have you been giving him?

A sore throat is something that I might mention to DH, might not, it's not that big a deal. Irritating but no biggie.

I think you have been overly sympathetic.

But yes it's ok to play sport if you have a cold/sore throat

Shoppingwithmother · 03/01/2020 10:05

I can’t imagine being barefoot in the sand had any effect on his throat. YABU

Shoppingwithmother · 03/01/2020 10:06

Well Yanbu to say he can’t complain too much, but YABU to think it’s a major issue

Minxmumma · 03/01/2020 10:11

YANBU It's a sore throat and he's an adult. Lashings of sympathy aren't needed especially if he can run round outside. Restock any appropriate medication (children's pain medication is great if he is having difficulty swallowing, as the pharmacist to work out the dose) and send him to the gp if it persists for to much longer.
He doesn't get to take to his bed with man flu though if he is able to play sports

Kelsoooo · 03/01/2020 10:15

I'm saying he still needs sympathy.

DH got bacterial tonsillitis back at the start of December, the infection has gone but he's still in loads of pain, and generally quite exhausted.

I got viral tonsillitis a couple of weeks ago, and I'm still in a fuck tonne of pain.

Paracetamol and Difflam aren't touching it.

We'd both be able to play sport if we'd commited to it, but it would absolutely wipe us out.

That being said, neither of us have slacked in our parenting duties, we've just crashed on the sofa at every opportunity.

So, it depends how he's behaving otherwise.

Two weeks coughing with a sore throat?

Doctor.

Colds last a few days - not 2 weeks.

ColaFreezePop · 03/01/2020 10:37

@nornironrock colds can last 2 weeks. And at this time if the year you can get one cold, get rid and immediately get another.

No biggie with someone well enough to play sport.

nornironrock · 03/01/2020 10:42

@ColaFreezePop - that's of course correct. But I'd rather get it checked out. A persistent cough can sometimes be an early symptom of something more sinister, that may not impact ability to play sports at an early stage.

It's worth a look.

Two weeks coughing with a sore throat?

Doctor.

Bloody hell Shock

The guy has a sore throat/cold - absolutely no need to go to the GP Confused

ExplodingCarrots · 03/01/2020 10:47

If he's been laying on the sofa saying he's ill and not pulling his weight for 2 weeks and then can suddenly play sport then I'd be miffed. But 2 weeks is too long to have a sore throat and he needs to get it checked out.

ColaFreezePop · 03/01/2020 10:47

@nonironrock the GP would look at him like he was mad. I had that and plenty of friends who actually had illnesses that needed treated.

zoobincan · 03/01/2020 10:48

Where is he getting a persistent cough? The guy has a sore throat, he has a cold!

And even if he did have a cough, even the NHS advice over 3 weeks before getting seen!

zoobincan · 03/01/2020 10:49

But 2 weeks is too long to have a sore throat and he needs to get it checked out.

Do I live on another planet?

I often think I must. Imagine going to the GP because you have a sore throat, and other cold symptoms. Jeez, the guy has a cold. Really common at this time of year Confused

Minxmumma · 03/01/2020 10:57

I hold my hands up for going to the gp with a lingering sore throat of 3 weeks (I don't have tonsils so a sore throat was a rarity even with a cold) - turned out I had a tumour and the infection had inflammed the surrounding tissue enough to make it something I could feel.

If it persists for a couple more weeks but without a fever or other symptoms he should check. But as pp have said 2 weeks is a bit soon especially if he has other cold symptoms.

FizzyIce · 03/01/2020 11:01

I’m currently in bed with some kind of cold virus , my throat feels like I’ve been swallowing glass and no way could I have played any sport , I only managed to get out of bed for a couple of hours yesterday.
He must be on the mend so no sympathy needed

busybarbara · 03/01/2020 11:05

Normal, I’ve beensniffly and cold ridden for about a month now

lisasimpsonssaxophone · 03/01/2020 11:07

NHS advice is to see a doctor if you have a cough for more than 3 weeks. I looked it up recently as I had one that felt like it was dragging on forever!

fantasmasgoria1 · 03/01/2020 11:10

Colds can last ages even getting on for a month - my last gp told me that. If I have a sore throat I begin to lose my voice so people can tell. It makes you feel run down and exhausted, you get pains and aches etc but you can still do things you just need a rest afterwards. I would not be giving loads of sympathy though!

Italianmoma1983 · 04/01/2020 09:51

The guy is still complaining of being sick - only he was always able to go out multiple time and have fun. At home, I get the long faces and the martyr act. I lost it with him, I’m sorry he still in pain but equally fed up to hear him complaining. If he had to go out last night with a mate I’m sure he would have find the strength to put on a brave face
