Aibu to let my 12 year old use scented candles in her bedroom?

RollingOutOfBed · 02/01/2020 19:42

Yes YABU. You'd be insane to do so.

GruciusMalfoy · 02/01/2020 19:47

Obviously, yes.

Chuffit · 02/01/2020 19:47

Mine did, but they were in enclosed glass candle houses so they were perfectly safe.
Alternatively, you could get the fake battery operated ones. They're very realistic.

DramaAlpaca · 02/01/2020 19:48

Not allowed in my house.

OlaEliza · 02/01/2020 19:49

Again? Really? Do we really have a candle troll now?!?!

Jfc

GruciusMalfoy · 02/01/2020 19:51

A candle troll? wtf.

NoEffort · 02/01/2020 19:52

Only if you like your house.

OlaEliza · 02/01/2020 19:54

A candle troll? wtf

This is the 4th or 5th thread asking exactly this in the last 2 weeks.

GruciusMalfoy · 02/01/2020 19:55

Bloody hell Hmm

Mummymummums · 02/01/2020 19:58

Don't do it. I was burning a candle in front room 2 days ago and went to loo. Came back and (luckily) noticed it was gone. Only DD aged 12 around so asked her if she knew where it was. "Oh yes, I moved it" and pointed to book shelf where it was starting to burn the shelf above. Shock
She's a sensible girl usually.

Aibuornotoop · 02/01/2020 19:59

Again?!?!
Maybe this thread is the DD hoping to see for herself what all the nasty ladies on mumsnet have to say Hmm

Yetanotherwinter · 02/01/2020 20:05

Not unless you want your house to burn down. Is this a serious question?

GeorgiaGirl52 · 02/01/2020 20:18

Noopen flames allowed in my house. Serious fire hazard!

NeutralJanet · 02/01/2020 20:22

Get her one of those plug in wax tart warmers instead?

WhentheRabbitsWentWild · 02/01/2020 20:55

A candle troll

hahaha

If you are not a troll , YABU in my opinion It can be very dangerous

OlaEliza · 02/01/2020 21:17

Yes a candle troll. I wouldn't be surprised if there was some fucking pervert getting off on all the stories of teenage girls burning themselves or nearly burning their houses down. There's a pervert for everything nowadays.

staceyflack · 02/01/2020 21:25

I haven't seen the other posts. It was a genuine question. Got the gist.

Hi, the house I live in now had a fire damaged box room caused by a candle. I had heard there had been a fire (years ago before even the owners before us) from the neighbours and there was still evidence of blackening and fire damage under the wallpaper and on the wooden door when we decorated. Also the radiator and electric sockets have been replaced in that room and are old in the rest of the house.

I don't think anyone was hurt as the neighbours would have said - but it could have been much worse.

Electric candles are available as flickering types (even with a remote control) and inside a coloured jar will be very realistic.

I bet the number of fire fighters or emergency room workers that allow candles in their house is very small.

Hahaha88 · 04/01/2020 08:07

@Mummymummums I actually made that stupid mistake myself recently, I'm definitely not a kid either. Can't believe I was so silly.

staceyflack · 04/01/2020 11:30

It's sorted now thanks - they've been removed and she understands. Thanks to the nice people. Not so much to the judges. People /I ask questions on here, because I want to do the right thing. And for multiple reasons, I'm not always confident to know what that is on my own. Happy New Year all. 💐
