To ask what your early Crohn's disease symptoms were?

For the past couple\few months I've been having symptoms. At first I assumed they're down to my pregnancy (I'm 13 weeks) because that's when I first starting really noticing the symptoms. But I never had anything like this in previous pg.

Have an additional symptom now which, according to my Google endeavors could potentially be cancer or Crohn's disease. :(

Now my 2 brothers were diagnosed with Crohn's around my age, and my grandmother died of cancer at my exact age (31).

I have a Dr appointment for next week, but it would be very helpful to hear some of your earliest symptoms you remember of Crohn's so I can compare. (Probably not the best thing to do but I have a few days to wait to see gp and I need to stop googling).

Thanks

Does Chrohns usually present with constant diahorrea?

Sorry to hijack OP's thread (and obviously will seek GP appointment) but I've been having:

  • Recurring episodes of diahorrea but with no other symptoms of a bug usually. Occasionally may be feverish just at the time but then clears straight away
  • Recurring episodes of vomiting but no other symptoms of a bug (and not at same time as diahorrea)
  • Fatigue
  • Blood in stools (bright red)

...but no abdo pain (apart from diahorrea cramps) or weight loss. Appetite is reduced but still fine.

I'm thinking it might be more IBS as the last bit doesn't fit Crohns?

Does your diarrhoea ever occur at night and wake you up? that doesn't usually happen with IBS
Blood in the stools is also not typical of IBS but there is a long list of other causes for that such as piles.
The symptoms can vary not everyone gets pain and not everyone gets diarrhoea.
If in doubt your GP should do a faecal calprotectin - it is now widely used and fairly reliable ( although not 100%) at differentiating IBS from Crohns or Colitis

DS has UC. His symptoms were bleeding from his bum, mucous and diarrhoea. The feeling of urgently needing a poo but not passing anything. Staying on the loo for ages. Also anaemia. He was very pale with dark circles under his eyes. His farts were toxic.

Diagnosis came after a colonoscopy and endoscopy although he did do a fecal calprotectin test too.

Ugh yes, the tenesmus! One of the worst symptoms on a sheer annoyance level!

mattymoo55 · 02/01/2020 20:57

@wheresmymojo I rarely get pain and never had much weight loss so would echo comments of asking for a faecal calproctein test for definite.

wheresmymojo · 02/01/2020 21:22

Thanks all, I will ask for a test.

I haven't had diahorrea at night but have woken up vomiting although apparently only a small % age of Crohn's involve vomiting so I'm not sure what to think.

I'll see what the GP says as I'm not sure the diahorrea is frequent enough for it to be Crohn's. 🤷🏻‍♀️

Also consider Coeliac disease which has symptoms in common with Crohns.
Autoimmune diseases often improve in pregnancy.

Singlebutmarried · 02/01/2020 21:40

The only good thing about pregnancy for me was no crohns symptoms

When it presented at 17 it was not being able to eat, diaorreah, and massive weeping lumps all over my legs.

leostar1994 · 03/01/2020 13:26

Stomach cramps and feeling quite sick when eating anything, appetite loss. I then started getting lots of diarrhoea and vomiting. I'm currently on steroid treatment following an MRI scan and colonoscopy confirming it affects 11cms of my small intestines. I hope for your sake that it's something not as serious and hope that you get answers soon.

I have the same going on at the moment I’ve been having eye problems (uveitis) joint pains and just feeling not myself.... put it down to lock down at first. A week ago I got my results back and they have said you liking have Ibd ..... I’m shocked as I can’t believe I might have an answer after a long year of tests and waiting.
I’m slightly worried as it’s in my eyes and joints does that mean it’s bad 😳
