To consider buying a Himilayan Salt Lamp?

I hear they're good for anxiety and calming etc but also I'm a big fan of cozy lighting and autumnal colours. I'm a big reader though... if I bought one for my bedside table would it light up the room enough to see?

I don’t think you could read to it

A selenite lamp would though?

I have quite a big one and when it was on my bedside table it was light enough to read, just about. You'll only know when you get one though. The light is sooo cozy and it's lovely. I got the "worlds smallest" salt lamp for Xmas and it sits on my bedside table now Smile

I bought one and the light is lovely but I found mine seeped liquid if I didn't use it regularly. That damaged the paintwork on a shelf and I was a bit annoyed about it. Gave it to my son who loves it!

I have a salt candle holder for tea lights. Soft warm glow.

We have a large one in my sons room. He has adhd and it’s to help him sleep. I don’t think there’s anything special that helps him other than the glow. You could read by it if it were next to you.

The seeping is the moisture from the air that the salt has absorbed

Do you have any pets? I'm sure I read somewhere that those lamps are toxic if cats or dogs (possibly both) lick them.
Would be worth checking just in case if you do have pets.

TerribleCustomerCervix · 02/01/2020 00:09

They have a lovely glow- would be perfect for night time changes in a nursery or a nightlight in a child’s room, but they wouldn’t be bright enough so you could read without straining your eyes.

You could buy a smart bulb for less than £20 and use it in an existing lamp.

I have a Phillips Lumie and the light is lovely but still bright enough to read by as well

Thanks guys, no pets

I have 3 salt lamps (2 small ones for the bedside tables and 1 larger one in our living room) plus we have to tealight holders- they are lovely, I find they really do help us get relaxed in the evening. However, I'm not sure you'd be able to read by them - it's more of a comforting glow than a 'usable' light if you see what I mean!
I'd definitely recommend them though, just for the relaxation they give.

'two tealight holders' - not sure who stole my 'W'!

sayingno · 02/01/2020 06:36

We have two (once on each nighstand), they give a lovely cozy feeling, but not enough for me to read. I love it, though! For it to have any results (as in help with anxiety, breathing, etc), they're supposed to stay on for a few hours for the actual salt to get hot.

I bought one about a year ago to see if it helped with sleep. It doesn't but I love my lamp. As others have said, I love the glow and it's a much more pleasant light than that of a standard lamp. I can read with it but it's borderline.

Mine has never seeped, not even a tiny bit of moisture. I turn it on 1 to 2 hours before I come to bed, as said, I haven't noticed it really changes anything to the air!

I don’t believe the woo effect . However the salt it very pretty and gives a nice warm glow
