MIL boundaries

Name changed as potentially outing. I get along okay with MIL who lives a plane ride away. I’m very family oriented and didn’t initially understand why DP keeps her at arms length treating her politely but with reserve. We’ve just returned from a 4 day visit. Not for the first time she rifled through my cosmetics in our bedroom when I was out. She also didn’t speak to us At all on our last evening as we went to visit DP’s friends without her in the afternoon. She’s incredibly childish - huffing and even crying if you don’t do what she wants when she wants. She tries to control everything when we are there which is very annoying given that DP and I are in our 50s. I like to be friendly but now am also keeping her at arms length and am evasive during our visitS about our plans as otherwise she tries to prevent us doing anything without her. It’s so claustrophobic

Yabu to ever visit her again imo...

I'm continually amazed at people who have no respect for boundaries. It sounds like she doesn't know what a boundary is.

She must be quite elderly, not sure if that explains her behaviour or makes it any easier.
