To change my name by Deed Poll

So I had a bit of a crap Christmas partly due to a family member who I no longer want anything to do with. They were the only one I used to have contact with from that side of my family and to be honest all they have caused me is pain and upset.
My first name is the same name as one of my immediate family members on the NC side.
My mum swears blind I wasn't named after them but after her school friend.
I've gone ahead and changed my entire name by deed poll but I'm worried about my mums reaction. I really don't want to hurt her. She gave me my original name but I've always hated it as I detest the person with the same name as me.
How do I go about telling her? I wish I could just pop round for a coffee and talk it through but she lives over 100 miles away from me now.

Thanks everyone for your advice and help. I really do appreciate it.
Spilttea I overthink everything!! I have GAD as a result of a bit of a crappy childhood. I'm under a psychiatrist though so fx that helps me sort through everything. I wish I could just turn my brain off sometimes but I find it very difficult.

If it’s a nickname you’ve been known by and even she has called you it, then this makes a difference.

Mine was change to my nickname. I was named after my mum however and she abused us so i wanted to break away from her.

I haven’t changed my passport yet. I haven’t been affected as long as I book my flights in my full name. It’s been quite a few years now so i will update my passport very soon

Update! Spoke to my mum she's absolutely fine and is already calling me by my new name. I may have had a very shit father but I more than made up for it in the form of my mum. She's very happy for me and hopes that my new name will bring me lots or happiness.

So glad your mum is pleased about your new name! I much prefer my pen name to my real name (I hate my married surname, just doesn't feel like my name). There is something so liberating about naming yourself. Congrats op and enjoy your newname!

I was going to say if you asked at 7 to change your name it won’t be a surprise to her.

Like you I hate my name! Would love to have the guts to change it.

One DD has an unusual name and she’s free to change it if she doesn’t like it later.
