Just had to call the police on our neighbours aiming fireworks at cars

Stupid neighbours (who've we've had issues with for ages- smoking inside, suspected drug dealing etc) have just been outside for 20 minutes, drunk, setting fireworks off on the public pavement (illegal) and allowing them to explode into traffic and near people walking.

Was it an overreaction to call the police?

No, you were dead right. I would have done exactly the same

TildaTurnip · 01/01/2020 00:29

Not at all!

Orchidflower1 · 01/01/2020 00:30

Nope - definitely the right thing to do. Bloody hate the fact that any twonk can buy them!

ProfessionalBoss · 01/01/2020 00:34

@coffeeoclock I'm more confused by "we've had issues with for ages- smoking inside,"

Smoking inside? What does that even mean?

coffeeoclock · 01/01/2020 00:35

@ProfessionalBoss Oh sorry, we live in a flat- they're below us and smoke in the communal hallways which isn't allowed as it's a no smoking building. They have also left lit cigarettes on the carpet more than once!

Drunk idiots can blow themselves up and I will just roll my eyes. Start being a danger to others and it’s time for intervention.

bettybattenburg · 01/01/2020 00:36

Apart from the strange smoking inside (are you their landlord?) YANBU.

bettybattenburg · 01/01/2020 00:36

X-posted, now the smoking makes sense so YANBU about that either.

TrixieFranklin · 01/01/2020 00:40

They're wankers. Fireworks are so dangerous.

Emmelina · 01/01/2020 00:44

YANBU. That’s incredibly dangerous behaviour.

ProfessionalBoss · 01/01/2020 01:21

@coffeeoclock I completely understand now, especially with a carpeted communal space, which could present a fire hazard, not to mention they fail to take into account the health needs of their neighbours.

If people are phoning the police about neighbours having a party or setting fireworks off, then those calls will not be treated as priority, however if they are aiming those fireworks at pedestrians or cars, it then becomes more serious.

bettybattenburg · 01/01/2020 01:28

They're wankers. Fireworks are so dangerous.

They'd best be careful to make sure what they have got in their hand then.....a mistake would be tragic.

coffeeoclock · 01/01/2020 03:33

@bettybattenburg No not a landlord, just an annoyed neighbour who smells cigarettes 24/7 when it's a no smoking building Grin

@ProfessionalBoss The police actually drove by about 10mins after I rang but annoyingly they had gone inside then. Still firework rubbish on the floor though and the police know I have a video of it so I'm not sure what will happen now.

eaglejulesk · 01/01/2020 03:47

You did the right thing. That is downright dangerous, and the police will have a lot more to deal with if someone is injured by this stupid behaviour.

Topseyt · 01/01/2020 03:59

I'd say you did the right thing.

When we lived in a block of flats we had similar problems with one set of neighbours, who allowed their children to do things like launching fireworks out of their living room window and running a motorbike engine in the communal area (apparently they kept the motorbike in their bath!!

MrOnionsBumperRoller · 01/01/2020 07:44

Repeat scum nuisance neighbours should have a firework shoved up their arse and set off.

ProfessionalBoss · 01/01/2020 17:36

@coffeeoclock the situation you called about was serious and could have resulted in injury, I would in all honesty put your footage onto a cheap memory stick and take it to the police station, to at least have a warning issued if nothing else. Also, you haven't mentioned if you are all private tenants or council, and if it is the latter, or if they are privately renting, it could be used as evidence of their antisocial behaviour.
