OP posts:
MashedSpud · 31/12/2019 22:40

My cat doesn’t like them.

I wish they just did quiet ones.

Newmetoday · 31/12/2019 22:40

I hate fireworks but it’s New Year’s Eve. Surely it’s expected.

FizzyIce · 31/12/2019 22:45

Fireworks are bloody annoying .
Also agree with a ban for domestic fireworks

Rosebel · 31/12/2019 22:46

No fireworks round here but there probably will be at 12. I quite like them and it's one night. You can't expect others not to celebrate because you've got to work. Buy some earplugs.

Knowhowufeel · 31/12/2019 22:53

@spingly, actually there are some rules regarding the use of fireworks.

spingly · 31/12/2019 22:56

@Knowhowufeel I meant at the moment 🙄 perfectly legal, been done for years....... it's a new phenomenon that it's an issue.

GeorgiaGirl52 · 31/12/2019 23:00

It is 6pm where I am. Still somr daylight. Fireworks have started. Dogs are panicking even though they are inside. It's going to be a long night.

CooCooCoo · 31/12/2019 23:01

YABU - they shouldn’t be set off at all

thenightsky · 31/12/2019 23:02

Not heard or seen a single firework here tonight. Despite there being a Chinese owned firework factory down the road.

TrixieFranklin · 31/12/2019 23:18

My neighbours left their dog out in the garden 4-5 whilst they were out this afternoon presumably thinking there wouldn't be fireworks at that time but boy were they wrong - poor thing was terrified our other neighbour climbed their gate to help it.

They've been going off sporadically since just after 4. Fuck off. Hate them.

NoSauce · 31/12/2019 23:18

Wish they’d be banned. My poor dog is petrified of them. Nobody needs them.

GlitteryUnicornSparkles · 31/12/2019 23:19

YANBU. I expected Fireworks at midnight not 5pm before my cats were safely rounded up and indoors.

Dickheads let a load off right behind my house on Christmas Day night killing one of my rabbits. Public sales should be banned.

LakieLady · 31/12/2019 23:24

Sigh .... they're not banned they are legal and they can be let off at anytime!

Nope, only up until 11pm, except for Nov 5th (midnight), Diwali, Chinese New Year and NYE (all 1.00am).

thinking2019 · 31/12/2019 23:25

We have two cocker spaniels and three cats. The cats are ok with the noise but the dogs are beyond stressed. We have the TV up loud, classic FM on in the dining room and We are fussing and chatting to the boys a lot more loudly than usual. It's distressing for the boys but I get worried the neighbours will be upset at the barking. I like fireworks but can't we just have quiet ones! That is a thing isn't it?!?

Inthemuckheap · 31/12/2019 23:31

Been going off here since it got dark. My dogs and horses aren't bothered but I hate the fucking things!

BraveSpiritKindHeart · 31/12/2019 23:31

Currently sat in bed, with my cat clinging onto my leg, quivering in fright under the covers because she's so scared of them! They've been going off every evening since Christmas Eve round here! We live in a row of terraced houses and some dickhead let one off in his garden and set fire to a neighbours bush last year. Far far to close to residential houses and pets to be safe. They should be banned for personal use!

Santasy · 31/12/2019 23:34

None at all where I live and we are all still surviving. The children don't seem to be deprived either.

heath48 · 31/12/2019 23:38

Hate the bloody things, every year I sign another Petition to ban them, nothing happens.None here so far,but there will be at midnight. My pets are petrified of them.

CactusSmactus · 31/12/2019 23:39

For the sake of a handful of nights a year people get really irate over bloody fireworks.

OhGrrrreat · 31/12/2019 23:43

Not been too bad here tonight but I'm expecting them at midnight. Bonfire Night was an absolute nightmare, fireworks going off nonstop from 11pm til about 2am, DH had to be up at 5am with a long drive ahead and managed 3 hours sleep. It's unfair on pets, babies and those with an early start for work.

Jaxhog · 31/12/2019 23:52

I wouldn't mind a few fireworks - if I could see them. But we've had the bang, bang since bloody 6:30 pm. Our cats are still hiding.

BraveSpiritKindHeart · 01/01/2020 00:18

CactusSmactus - It's not a few nights a year though. Every day between Christmas and new year is quite common, bonfire night and the weekends either side if mid week, Diwali and the days either side, Chinese New Year and the days either side, someone's birthday, someone's engaged/married/new baby, someone graduated, someone moved house, someone for no good reason just wants to let off a mini explosion with pretty colours. They are dangerous explosives and cause a lot of harm. I suggest you to go and spend some time in a burns unit around the most popular fireworks seasons. I work in a hospital and have seen some hideous burns due to fireworks, mostly to young people/children. Explosives should only be set off in a contained area by a trained expert. They are essentially bombs.

bettybattenburg · 01/01/2020 00:24

Fireworks are still going off here. Three frightened animals (friend's dog and their two small furries) are terrified, the dog is sat at my feet quivering and the small furries are under a blanket on my knee.

HighOnStilts · 01/01/2020 01:01

@BraveSpiritKindHeart Well said!! 👏
I'm totally with you, it's not just bonfire night or new year that fireworks go off anymore, it's throughout the year! I've seen so many firework shops popping up that are open all year round also, what's all that about? 🤦🏻‍♀️
