To ask for your help in saving my cheese plant

I’m hoping my photo attaches okay or this is pretty pointless. We’ve had it about a month but over the last few weeks the bottom leaves have turned yellow and the top one appears to be growing some fungus. Is there anything I can do or just admit defeat and get rid?

I'd cut the leaves off towards the bottom of the stem as the look diseased? I am no expert but that's what I would try (only with the ones that are yellow with holes in)

Delbelleber · 29/12/2019 17:56

Hmm. I'd cut the bad leaves off from the stems. I have a thriving cheese plant, had it a year now. Likes to be by the window doesn't need an awful lot of water maybe once every 3 weeks.

glueandstick · 29/12/2019 18:05

It’s over watered and needs more light. Take the yellow leaves off. Make sure it’s in good well draining soil with lots of orchid compost (bark) and never sits in water. Shove a stone st the bottom of the decorative pot between it and the planting pot so it can drain.

Might you be overwatering, OP? They don’t like that. If the brown spots are dry, however, that may be a sign of under-watering.
Beware of too much direct sunlight too, as it could ”burn”.

Maybe a little fertiliser may be needed... weak tea is what I use!

Oh no poor plant! I'm a terrible plant owner but my cheese plant is thriving (not bragging just amazed). I water it once a week and spritz it too. It is relatively low sunlight. I was told they are Hardy plants and would be good for me. Hope it recovers.

Oh interesting, the guy at the flower market said it was ideal as our lounge doesn’t get much/any light but perhaps he was trying to sell to me! I’ll put it in a more sunny spot and see if cutting off those yellow leaves does anything.

That definitely looks over watered.

Cryingoverspilttea · 29/12/2019 21:15

Overwatered. You need to water it like two egg cups a week if that, less over winter. It deffo needs more sun too

GETTINGLIKEMYMOTHER · 29/12/2019 21:16

They do need light. For many years I’ve had a huge one in a bay window that gets a lot of afternoon sun. Every now and then I have to take a few massive cuttings - I mean at least 3 or 4 feet each - and start again, before it tries to grow through the ceiling.

Sprinklemetinsel · 29/12/2019 22:00

It doesn't want sun! Just light.
