To think there's no point in seeing a doctor now?

So long story short, a few months ago I slammed my back door shut. Somehow I got my finger caught behind the door handle as I did so and I got pulled along behind the door by one finger.
The pain was excruciating, and my finger was stiff for a couple of weeks and hard to move.
Everyone I spoke to said it was probably a sprain, or pulled ligament in my finger, as I could still bend my finger, albeit slowly.
Anyway, the pain gradually subsided, but it’s still painful 3 months later, especially when I touch the spot circled in the photo, there’s almost a bony bit on the side of my finger joint now.
I didn’t think they could do much anyway for broken fingers (even if it was broken)?
Is there any point getting it looked at 3 months later or is it just one of those things?

There is every possibility you have damaged a bone, tendon or ligament. I would see your GP for referral to a hand specialist.
Sometimes you just need a splint but best to find out what the damage is

Even months later? I figured they’d tell me it’s too far down the line to treat.

I hurt my finger in February last year - it was very swolllen but not broken. I left it and left it but could not bend the finger properly. I ended up going to the gp after 4 weeks. He sent me to the hospital. Got referred to physio - they have specialist hand physios. I ended up needing nearly 6 months of physio treatment. Had to have a brace to wear at night and contraptions over the joint to stretch out the finger.

I had a PIP sprain.

Even if it is too far to treat, what's the harm in seeing a doctor about it?

Could be whats called a bony volar plate injury. Basically where you take a teeny tiny bit of bone off with a ligament. Strapped for a few weeks then hand OT, or hand physio. Depending on your local trust.
At this stage a few months down the line I'd be recommending an appointment with your GP who can arrange an out patient xray and if necessary follow up with hand OT/physio.

Hand injuries should always be followed up. Definitely do see your GP or walk in centre.

It depends on what you want to do I guess. I’ve broken numerous fingers trapping them in conference tables when I ran a hotel and by the end of it I was just strapping them up myself as that’s all the doctor was doing (fwiw I did go eventually and say I’ve broken nearly all my fingers now and some twice and I had some form of vitamin deficiency and coeliac disease!) I’ve got like 2 minorly deformed fingers but don’t affect me at all and the rest set perfectly on their own. If it’s giving you jip they can maybe do something?

I can fully sympathise with you, as a few months ago I a fell (I'm disabled) and my full body weight landed on my little finger in a door jam. I'm still having problems with it now, with pain and pins and needles sensations. I didn't get it checked at the time because I thought it was "just a finger and they wouldn't do anything" so I strapped it myself for a few days. (If I went for medical advice after every accident I'd never be away from the Dr!)

But like you, I now think that the damage has probably been worse than I initially thought to still be having problems, and although I wonder if there's any point getting it checked after so long, I know that you use your hands constantly, and if visiting the GP and perhaps getting a physiotherapy referral, it will heal faster, and be less painful.

@TheDarkPassenger I've broken all my toes at some point or another, more than once, and they now look deformed, but I don't feel my feet at all due to my disability. I can't imagine working with broken fingers on a regular basis though!

Compression fracture?
