Brain tumour?

I know they’re very rare and it’s always deemed unlikely but the Christmas period is being ruined by my anxiety over this.

I have gone from someone who loves a clean house to not caring, and no energy to do anything about it. I saw this as a positive thing t be more relaxed but now I’m worried it’s a personality change.

I have had headaches for years, every day. I don’t take medication for it because I’m not into taking any kind of drug and they don’t stop me doing things.

I saw a doctor a couple of months ago for pins and needles in both hands and feet and bloods showed high calcium. I am being investigated for hyperparathyroidism which can have symptoms similar to a brain tumour. I won’t have more tests until the new year.

Since Monday night I have had a new headache which won’t resolve with pain killers. It feels like my forehead is burning, my temples feel like someone has put a balloon in there. The weight of my glasses is too much. Paracetamol and ibuprofen don’t do anything for it. I have also felt light headed at times with mild nausea (improved with eating). No temperature, no cold symptoms.

I saw my GP yesterday who sent me for urgent bloods on my calcium but just said to try codeine for the headache.

This morning I’ve woken up and the pain is also in the back of my head.

I am so scared and my husband keeps telling me I’m being silly but I can’t stop crying. I don’t know what to do.

Any comfort, support or advice gratefully received.

Thank you @bestiswest I have just joined that FB group. It sounds ridiculous to say I hope this headache is just another symptom of the calcium because it’s a long old wait to a cure but it’s infinitely better than a brain tumour.

A calcium of 2.86 of easily high enough to make you feel like utter shite.

Plus you have your diagnosis - your PTH is high. You do just have to go through all the tests to find out exactly where from so you can get your surgery and be on the road to feeling much much better.

The website @BestIsWest links to has a v helpful list of frequency of symptoms - 58% of sufferers have headache/migraine. Plus it says anxiety is one of the first symptoms to be relieved after surgery, how amazing would that be? Flowers

Have you had your blood sugars checked also? Just with you mentioning the thirst, any increase in urination as well?

Perid0t · 29/12/2019 11:13

@AnnaMagnani thank you. Oh yes I am looking forward to the surgery in the hope it alleviates some of my anxiety. Ridiculous to look forward to being cut open! It appeared out of the blue in February and can be very debilitating at times.

I think if I knew it was the calcium I could deal with it better but because nobody can tell me for sure, I am worrying it’s something unrelated and serious.

@thecountessatathotelcortez yes they were fine. Increased thirst and urination is a symptom of high calcium as well as diabetes so I’m satisfied it’s related to my hypercalcaemia x

Hello I'm not a doctor but I can let you know my fil had a fit, ended up on floor and nearly passed out. Previous to that he has very little symptoms, no headaches just tiredness. He was quite fit actually. Overnight he was diagnosed with a huge brain tumour (highest grade cancer of the brain) and it is terminal. I hope you get better.

CookieDoughKid · 29/12/2019 11:19

So your symptoms very different to my fil. Hope that makes you feel a little better.

Perid0t · 29/12/2019 11:38

That new headache sounds like a sinus headache, they're horrible.

Perid0t · 29/12/2019 12:06

@goose1964 thank you for your input. I have just taken Sudafed so hopefully it helps! This morning I have had a feeling of blocked ears when I breathe deeply through my nose (although the headache, burning pain in my scalp has not abated with this) so I hope you are right x
