Is this a good gift for a one year old

My friend's little girl is just about to turn one. I know she will have been inundated with clothes and toys for now so I thought about getting her the Beatrix Potter collection for when she is older. I think it looks beautiful and I have so many fond memories of reading the stories when I was young. But my husband said it's too old for a one year old. I'm however not implying she will use it now. Would you appreciate a gift like this for your one year old or not?

If you are wanting to buy books with a more traditional, nostalgic vibe, rather than the more modern Julia Donaldson type books, I would suggest books like the Alfie series by Shirley Hughes, the Mog the cat series and The tiger who came to tea by Judith Kerr, Peepo and Each peach pear plum by the Ahlbergs, the cat in the hat by dr. Seuss.
Those are all "classics" that are pulled off the shelf and re read time and time again.

Hmm, I really wasn't keen on old fashioned books like this for my dc and they weren't either. There's so much good writers around that I'd go for new books - and something the Dc can enjoy now.

I suggest board book classics like Dear Zoo, any Jez alborough books, the tiger who came to track or any Julia Donaldson books - they were all read over and over in our house.
