Can anyone tell me about kindles?

I got one for Christmas and know nothing about them. I spend a lot of time hanging around clubs for my child so it will come in handy but I’m not too sure on it. I’ve noticed some free books and downloaded a couple. Can anyone recommend any free books? Also feels weird buying books for it when you don’t get something physical for your money 😂

Search by price, or genre then price.

You also do not need to get all your books from Amazon

I currently have 2 kindles that synch so I can read in bed at night and then pick up the story on my second kindle when I'm out.

You can also put the kindle app on your phone and tablet and synch them. If you have an echo device it can read your kindle to you, better than dropping the kindle in the bath (although drying completely and then putting in a bag of rice for a week surprisingly revived it well).

I never knew that the echo could read to you. What is the electronic voice like? Does it sound natural?

Use kindle on my I pad all the time. You do get some free books but it’s worth subscribing to kindle unlimited £7.99 pm loads of choice. Also bookbub which is free.

@Gingerkittykat

It's Alexa's voice so not too robotic but it is a bit odd when the book is written from a male narrator, you can tell alexa to speed up or slow down.

And obviously my previous post should have been sync not synch, I now have a mental image of my kindles sharing a tight belt.

I love mine, I don't have the space in our house that the physical books take up either.
I share an Amazon account with my mum do we effectively have one library that we can then share the contents of. This was before they introduced the concept of household library so not sure which would work better for you.

Thanks all. I don’t think anyone I know has a kindle but will investigate. Do you have to share an amazon account to share books? Don’t fancy that but do fancy sharing some books if I can find someone.

If your added on same household in your account settings you can share books but you cant lend books like in the usa sadly.

bridgetreilly · 28/12/2019 19:21

You can only share on a shared household account in the UK.

I use ereaderiq to track the books I want to buy on kindle they then email you when the price drops.
