To give up social media

Greydove28 · 26/12/2019 21:09

I gave up social media (apart from mumsnet) over the Xmas period. I didnt want to be wasting time scrolling through Facebook and instagram when i could be spending time with my kids.

Well i am feeling so much more relaxed!! No having to like loads of posts or spending any time replying and commenting on loads of posts. Im thinking i might give it up for the next 30 days! Anyone else the same?

If it’s working for you, great! Keep going

skippy67 · 26/12/2019 21:13

You do you.

Namechangeymcnamechange11 · 26/12/2019 21:13

YANBU. Gave it up months ago, I don't even give it a passing thought.

hiphiphoorayback · 26/12/2019 21:13

Me too. I really need to give it up

QueenofPain · 26/12/2019 21:13

YANBU but you never had any obligation to comment or like anything.

I got rid of FB about two weeks ago and I really don’t miss it.

Ragwort · 26/12/2019 21:15

I never even started it, apart from Mumsnet, from what I hear about FB etc I don’t think I am missing out on anything Grin.

KatieRobin · 26/12/2019 21:26

Do it! Haven’t been on social media for a year and do not miss it in the slightest! All the fakery or best versions of their life people put across; all the attention seeking and drama! I’m not saying it’s all bad, but I’m certainly not missing anything about it

ginandgingers92 · 26/12/2019 21:27

Gave it up 3 months ago (with exception of MN) and I'm so much happier! Do it!

Ds8isruiningitforall · 26/12/2019 21:29

I stopped commenting, liking post a long time ago as it was just exhausting but still go on facebook but my newsfeed are mostly recipes and food ideas

Greydove28 · 26/12/2019 21:41

I feel so much better for it as i always try to like and put nice comments but finding it too exhausting now. Think im gonna try and do a 30 day detox.

I haven't used it for years (only fakebook I'm talking about, I've never had twitter, instagram or the other one which name escapes me right now). I don't think I'm missing out at all.

Does MN count as SM?

mumofone2818 · 26/12/2019 21:49

i have had no social media for 2 years now -apart from joining this when had DD. I'm only 25 & the wonders it has done for me is amazing Grin

thepeopleversuswork · 26/12/2019 21:51

I’m quite torn on this: can definitely see the value in this. I know I am massively addicted and really need to cut down, would value the detox.

On the other hand there’s loads that’s great about it. I love that FB allows me to maintain friendly casual chats with people I would not in a million years bother to phone up and would never bump into. Yes I know that’s not the same as having real friends but I would really miss it.

Just wish it wasn’t so all or nothing.

KatieRobin · 26/12/2019 22:04

I used to be like this. Thought it was good for maintaining those casual friendships ... but genuinely don’t miss it! Not one bit!
