Are retailers allowed to do this?

DS15 has gone shopping with Xmas money today. Bought a jacket from well know high street shop. Has since decided it was too expensive for what it was and went back for a refund. They've told him they're too busy and not doing refunds til 29th.

Can they do this?

You might find they only refund the sale price of the coat so be prepared to end up keeping it - Debenhams did this to me a while back

QueenOfTheFae · 26/12/2019 15:47

They will refund the price paid unless.he doesn't have the receipt

NotSorry · 26/12/2019 15:49

They haven't said they won't refund, just that he has to wait until 29th

sweeneytoddsrazor · 26/12/2019 15:53

If he purchased it today then likely ti be sale price anyway, but as long as he has proof of purchase he will get price paid.
I really cant believe people dont realise that teenagers out shopping always pop in for food somewhere. Its the teenage equivalent of having a coffee ffs.

I had the receipt for full price at Debenhams and they refunded just the sale price - I queried it with their customer services and it’s their policy

weequickone · 26/12/2019 15:59

He doesn't need to pay cash for the food i assume by lifted money you mean withdrawn from the cash machine so he can use his card to pay if you transfer him some money

Yes he does need to pay cash, as he doesn't have that type of card. But that's fine. He has cash for food. Just not for a full weekly shop like some people seem to think I make him sort out himself.

I didn't twig straightaway about the food thing- talk of transferring money followed by having enough for food made me think of an adult living elsewhere, but if he's only 15, you should be feeding him!

Sprinklemetinsel · 26/12/2019 16:03

Obviously, it's while he's out-

I'm failing to explain my confusion BlushConfused

I think everyone realises that but they assume that he would have planned for that when buying the coat in the first place and that even if he hadn't he would probably not waste away by the time he comes home tonight.
