Call of Duty - at 14?

Dh asked his mates about COD for ds 14. They all said it was fine and their kids play it. (age 16 version)
Watching it, it doesn't seem gory per se, just the concept of killing people worries me for psychological reasons, but then ds does want to go into the forces anyway?
I do not mind stretching the age rating on some things but not sure about this one.
YABU - let him play it.
YANBU - he is still too young.

I'd let him play the online mode with no issues. You can even turn the blood off if you want to.

However, if you're talking about the latest CoD, the campaign was VERY graphic and adult themed. I had difficulty with some of the scenes myself, as a 40 year old adult. I certainly wouldn't let a child play it.

Most children aren't really interested in the campaign though, and just want to play the online mode with their mates. Video games will not make a person violent.

I'm not going to say yes or no as i don't have my own children yet and would probably feel differently if I did, but I have watched this full episode from Jo Frost which is worth a watch if your worried.

DS has had COD for ages. He's 14. He just plays with his mates online.

He seems reasonably adjusted...

Ok, it looks like IABU, fair enough!

No idea if it is the latest campaign. It was bought by DH as a Xmas present - he said to make sure I told you all it was the 16 one, not the 18 one?

COD is fine. If you have PS4 you'll find that the most, and especially the coolest games are rated 18. Even the bloody fucking Spiderman is 16. Don't give much thought into it. Kids certainly don't.

My ds friends have been playing it since 8. Horrendous. 14 is totally different. If you think he'll be fine, go for it, but ultimately only you know how he can react.

couchparsnip · 26/12/2019 12:38

Its fine. DS is 14 and plays similar games. We do censor some of them but the 16 version of C of D would be OK.

MrsEnglishh · 26/12/2019 12:51

The new one is definitely an 18. But as I've said, that's for the campaign. I let my 12 year old play multiplayer. I play it myself and it's absolutely fine. The only thing I do at that age is restrict his chat/friend capabilities so only his friends can talk to him and he can't add anyone I haven't approved (so no risk of talking to strangers or hearing abusive language etc).

Glitterfisher · 26/12/2019 12:52

Totally fine for a 14 yo IMO. DS2 is nearly 12 and plays it, most of his friends have it also. He doesnt play online with other people though.

Glitterfisher · 26/12/2019 12:53

Sorry meant he doesnt play the campaign.
