I'm still breastfeeding so I assumed it would stay away for a bit longer at least.

YANBU - mine came back at 9 months with DS1 (exclusively BF), at about 7 months with DS2 (FF), and extremely annoyingly about 3 week ago with DS3 who is now mostly FF, but still has a daily breastfeed...and he's only 13 weeks old.

Cadmum · 25/08/2007 21:49

I know that I would be annoyed so I do not think that you ABU...
Is your DB exclusively BF? How long does he/she go at night without a feed?

(I am now 17 months post natal with DB#4 and still no sign of the evil AF...)

kerala · 25/08/2007 21:49

YABU as I am jealous! Mine returned one month after my post birth bleeding stopped and I was exclusively bf. Lucky that you had 6 months respite...!

yelnats · 25/08/2007 21:55

17 months!

I stopped the night feed about 3/4 weeks ago and she has by herself dropped her lunchtime feed - I have been offering it but she isnt intersted - quite happy with water from a cup instead.

OP posts:
Cadmum · 25/08/2007 21:58

NO night feeds at 6 months!!!

Water from a cup? I should be talking to our DD2 about this!!!

(Proving that the grass is always greener...)

yelnats · 25/08/2007 22:02

We were co-sleeping but I decided enough was enough and she had to go into her cot in her own room so I just sent dp through for the first couple of nights and now she does wake up occasionally but settles without her feed. TBH she wasnt really taking much through the night anyway for the past few weeks before we stopped it. She was more just sucking to settle back to sleep when really there wasnt any need as she has a dummy.

OP posts:
yelnats · 25/08/2007 22:03

And she doesnt really take a great deal from the cup but she does seem to like it - I have no choice but to get her to master the cup now cos I am back at work in just over a week and she wont take a bottle - well not from me anyway.

Yes, you have every right but the silver lining is that you had longer than me. Both times, mine came back after 2 months and I was breastfeeding To rub salt in the wounds it came back on my birthday !

orangehead · 25/08/2007 22:20

with my 2nd baby peroid came at 6 weeks despite being exclusively bf to make it worse peroids became two weekly for quite a few months

sweetkitty · 25/08/2007 22:20

I got mine back 4 weeks post lochia with DD1 (totally BF) BUT she was sleeping through 11-6am at 6 weeks so nurse reckoned if you went over 4 hours without feeding it would trigger ovulation.

With the boobmonster (aka DD2) AF stayed away until she was 11 months.

yelnats · 25/08/2007 22:21

unlucky lucy5! I would have been raging if mine had come back that soon. With dd1 mine came back at 6 weeks - 3 weeks after postnatal bleeding stopped but I wasnt breastfeeding then so I expected it quick anyway.

yabu
mine came back after 6 weeks

amateurarsedoctor · 25/08/2007 22:28

I Bf'd for at least 12 months with all 3. AF returned 4 weeks postnatally each time. Count yourself lucky. I was already 2 months pregnant with number 3 by the time number 2 was 6 months old!

coppertop · 25/08/2007 22:31

AF was back after just 6 weeks each time despite bf'ing morning noon and night.

ratfly · 25/08/2007 22:32

Mine came today too - 7 months post natal, but not bf anymore and on the pill. Over a year free of them too..

It was a bit of a shock - those period pains were too soon after labour pains if you ask me!
Tbh I was relieved to get mine, as havent been too careful with the pill

yelnats · 25/08/2007 22:42

I havent actually had any cramps so far. I usually get them on the first day. I know now that I ahve said that I am going to have terrible cramps tomorrow.
What is the likelihood of them regulating straight away or can that take a bit of time? If I remember rightly they regulated almost immediately with dd1.

OP posts:
ratfly · 25/08/2007 23:01

Lucky you without cramps .
Well, it was either the period or the huge amount of jalapenos....

BigBearistheBigBear · 25/08/2007 23:07

I had my first AF at just under 7 months post-natal (BF for 2 months), but that was over a month ago and no sign of another. Even did a pregnancy test!

Cadmum · 26/08/2007 08:46

A dummy...

Sleeping through at 6 months ...

Almost makes me want to try for a 5th... Maybe then I would have the dream baby!

yelnats · 26/08/2007 22:50

I really couldnt have got this far without a dummy - she really would have been hanging from my boobs all day if I didnt give her that - now she lets me know what one she actually wants no probs.

No 5!

OP posts:
newlifenewname · 26/08/2007 22:52

I had mine back within 6 - 8 weeks and exclusively breast fed until 11 months.Eldest dc was a huuuuge feeder and still AF came back very quickly.

FrayedKnot · 26/08/2007 22:55

No, but it does happen, mine was 5 months exclusively BF and DS feeding at night x about 3, usually!

FrayedKnot · 26/08/2007 22:58

LOl at the idea of DS going 4 hours without feeding at 5 months

But my hormones are weird anyway. The sort where you get AF once every 6 months when you are not BF!

mawbroon · 26/08/2007 23:06

I am currently reading a book called Breastfeeding and Natural Child Spacing.
It talks about ecological breastfeeding which is more than just exclusive breastfeeding. It claims that ecological breastfeeding results in natural child spacing of around 18 to 30 months. It seems that ecological breastfeeding involves feeding your baby at every squeak, co sleeping and feeding through the night and having a nap with your baby, never being separated from baby, no use of dummies or bottles and weaning baby at their own pace.

So, unless you did all this, then YABU but actually I think that YANBU as AF is just a pain in the arse, oh no, I mean a pain in the fanjo.

daisyandbabybootoo · 26/08/2007 23:32

I had my first two weeks ago at 9.5 weeks PN , but DD had been sleeping 5+ hours at night since 5 weeks and from 8-6 for the past four weeks.

Thought I would have longer as with DS he slept 6 nours at 2 weeks and they didn't return till 4 weeks after I stopped BF.
