Men get the seats with arms, women sit near the hatch to help with the food. Aibu to bring up the patriarchy?

We're at home. I'm watching Fools and Horses eating chocolates. Dh is in full chef mode making crispy roasties. Sorted. Yanbu sit where you want.

The seating arrangements themselves are irksome, but not worth mentioning.

The women in the kitchen doing all the work just doesn’t happen if you refuse to participate.

If my daughter is present I have said something because I don’t want her thinking that sort of thing is acceptable behavior in a marriage. That some of her cousins who see this behavior on a daily basis also get to hear a counterpoint is a bonus.

Years ago DH and I were invited along with two other couples to an evening meal at a couple's house. Our hostess proceeded to instruct us to serve our husbands their meal. Did not want to say anything but was a bit Hmm

I live in hope that one day I'll get an invite somewhere like this. My family always loved a good Christmas argument, and I miss them now I have lovely calm Christmas Days.

Op, I hope you sat in a a chair with arms and self-IDed as a man.

MaButterface · 25/12/2019 18:02

It's fine only if the men get off their arse and do the washing after.

LadyTiredWinterBottom2 · 25/12/2019 18:06

Definitely not bu. I wanna know how this turned out.

KatherineJaneway · 25/12/2019 18:19

I wouldn't caused a fuss today unless they started plating up penis portions.

Lionsleepstonight · 25/12/2019 18:34

I always sit in a 'mans' seat and put my innocent face on.

FrangipaniBlue · 25/12/2019 18:49

It's like at a buffet you see all the women lining up with 2 plates while the men folk stay seated!

I've been asked on several occasions "aren't you getting Mr Frangipani's?"

Nope, he's an adult with all him limbs and faculties do he can walk his ass up to the buffet and get his bloody own!!

WireBrushAndDettolMaam · 25/12/2019 18:55

Switch all the seats around when no-ones looking.

GrannyBags · 25/12/2019 19:03

We don’t have a big family Christmas but when we have a ‘do’ at Mum’s then the oldest or most frail people sit in the chairs with arms, as they need more support and help getting up. My Dad ends up sitting on the piano stool next to the window sill so he can be wine waiter and myself and SIL drag bar stools in from the kitchen as we do all the cooking (our choice). I would never have thought of giving the armed chair to a person just because they were male.

tilder · 25/12/2019 19:11

This would wind me up. I would say something. I don't care anymore if its rude to make a point - they are being rude too.

Few people I know would do this and I don't care what they think of me. So I wouldn't be fussed about the consequences.

DonutMan · 25/12/2019 19:14

I'm much more comfortable in a chair with arms on account of having a pretty heavy upper half. But I certainly wouldn't expect the women to run around serving me like waiting staff.

DonutMan · 25/12/2019 19:17

I would be more than happy to pour my own wine/serve my own potatoes once they'd brought it all to the table.

(Just kidding 🤭).

peardrops1 · 25/12/2019 19:18

YANBU

lifeisgoodagain · 25/12/2019 19:23

Well I sat at the head as it's my house, dd sat at the other end as she was actually helpful, stbexh sat where he was told, he's lucky to have been fed!

spanieleyes · 27/12/2019 16:22

I cooked Christmas day dinner, so I sat nearest the kitchen so I could keep an eye on it, eldest son cooked Boxing day dinner, so he sat there instead.
