To buy white towels?

I've had half a bathroom for four months while DH does it up, and I have been promised (promised!) it will be finished before we go back to work in the new year.

I want white towels - white, fluffy, dense, hotel-style towels. I can see them there in my minds eye, rolled up in lovely neat rolls looking all spa-like next to the hanging planter I asked for for Christmas.

DH's issue is we have a one year old and in theory will have another baby in a year or so, and he thinks the white towels are a fantasy and that it will last a nanosecond. He thinks we should get grey or patterned. But we've never had white ones and I waaaant them - can't I have them?! 😭 Surely I can just hang them on the line to get out stubborn stains? I can get what I like, but DH has made me pause. Will I really rue the day, MN?

White here, they’re amazing! Like a pp said wash at 60 or 90 degrees.

Mine are all from TK Maxx or Primark.

KenzoBaby · 24/12/2019 22:45

Stunt Towels - dying!

Agree with pp who said that towels, paintwork and crockery should be white. I'd add bedding to that list. Anthea Turner agrees with me.

The good thing about having all white towels is they all always match. You can always pick up more white towels from anyqhere. Not so easy to get more of exactly the same colours. And I HATE mismatched towels/bedding - so student-y.

KenzoBaby · 24/12/2019 22:46

Mine are from Tesco and are nice and thick.
Don't use fabric conditioner.
Do use Oxy-White (or supermarket equivalent thereof)
Do tumble dry with dryer balls.

Thehop · 24/12/2019 22:48

Use vanish or ace for whites or those dr beck an sachets in mine. 4 kids, 2 dogs and had them about 15 years. Still bright white! Though I do wash them very hot

Lunafortheloveogod · 24/12/2019 22:55

@Cwenthryth.. essentially yes.. and from now on that’s totally their name Grin. Maybe dp won’t use them if they sound cool not just an addition to the candles we don’t light club Grin

Every one needs stunt towels!

paintedfences · 24/12/2019 23:16

@Lunafortheloveogod I can give you the towels, but can I convince you to light your nice candles? Use them all up, and then get new ones for Xmas and your birthday?

@paintedfences ironically the nice candles are just nice jars.. the candles inside smell very “interesting” ones got that much patchouli in it it’s like Woodstock farted on the dinner table Xmas Grin.

Don’t worry my stunt home isn’t completely mad... there’s no stunt furniture Xmas Grin

They're easy to keep clean if you wash them properly. That's why hotels use them.
House of Fraser have some lovely ones and they've got a sale on at the moment.
Enjoy your new, white towels 🙂

Parker231 · 25/12/2019 09:28

We’ve only ever had white towels and use a 30 degree wash - no problems. You’re clean when you use a towel.

eurochick · 25/12/2019 10:00

All our towels are white or cream. We have a five year old. We've never had any issues with staining. John Lewis is great for towels.

Rachelfromfriends1 · 25/12/2019 10:10

I have used plush white towels ever since I moved out at 18🤷🏼‍♀️ I love them! I think they do look quite luxurious if you have a modern aesthetic home/decor too, you definitely get those “hotel vibes”, especially if you have matching fluffy white dressing gowns too!

I replace mine on occasion, sometimes they end up with stubborn stains or turn slightly grey. They’re still usable so not a massive deal though.

JigsawsAreInPieces · 25/12/2019 10:28

We got our white towels from Asda and they come up pristine every time. Had them about 4 years now.

Fieldofgreycorn · 25/12/2019 10:30

I have only good quality white towels in my bathroom. You can put sachet of whitener like dr beckman’s in each wash. You can wash very hot. Use bleach etc.

That’s why hotels use white. If anything they’re easier to keep thoroughly clean. Google for more info.

Northernsoullover · 25/12/2019 10:41

I have mismatched towels Blush

I have a stunt purple armchair in my bedroom. It is not for sitting on or dumping things on. It is for looking nice in the corner and pretending I read books.

One of the cats disagrees and thinks it is an armchair-shaped cat bed, but living with a cat is a lifelong negotiation 🤷🏻‍♀️

fussychica · 25/12/2019 10:50

I love white towels. I hate it when you rent a villa or cottage and the towels are some dark colour so I can't tell if they are stained!

actiongirl1978 · 25/12/2019 10:56

Yep, we only had white towels for years. Gone to slate grey as a style choice in recent years but everything else is white - as a PP said:

White towels, bedding, paintwork and crockery. We also have white kitchen worktops, white walls and a pale pink kitchen. Easy to clean, paint over, bleach etc.

YABU to have them fluffy though. Towels should scratch you! Hate hotel towels that take forever to dry me because they are fluffy!

ferntwist · 26/12/2019 07:13

Get them!

Twofingers · 26/12/2019 07:47

Coloured towels look tired much quicker than white ones, white ones are far more practical.
We’ve had some of our white towels over thirty years!

LakieLady · 26/12/2019 08:06

I have these

www.dunelm.com/product/hotel-pima-cotton-white-towel-1000152647?bathroomSize=Bath+Sheet&colour=White

and they have stayed soft and fluffy despite being line dried whenever weather permits. I keep them pristine by chucking some Napisan in ever few washes, and by not letting DP use them (he has his own coloured towels).

WiseUpJanetWeiss · 26/12/2019 08:07

This thread has convinced me to buy some lovely white towels. Hope John Lewis do them as I have a voucher...

Booberella9 · 26/12/2019 08:13

Shocked!

I must be doing something wrong. The white bedsheets I got as an experiment already have a few stains. Washing hotter just seems to change the colour of the stains Confused

BikeRunSki · 26/12/2019 09:05

John Lewis currently have lots of towels in their clearance sale. I’ve just ordered 4 x white for adults, and 2 x 2 colours for the DC. The idea is that they’ll stick to “their” colour. I’m replacing JL towels we got as wedding presents nearly 20 years ago.

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 26/12/2019 09:22

I bought towel bales from Costco- handtowels and bathtowels (sadly no bath sheets in white , but I keep checking)

They aren't thick and fluffy (those buggers don't dry you properly) but they are really robust , hot wash and Bio Powder with Astonish powder . If possible hang out to dry .

And (like they do in hotels ) I use a dirty towe to wipe round the bathroom/downstairs loo.
It's going to get washed and it saves a cloth (which would also need to get washed !)
