AIBU?
to wonder why the vote is never 0%

OP posts the most unreasonable story ever told. In it OP is the absolute picture of reasonableness. Then there’s a vote, and there’s always 1 or 2% who vote that OP IBU. Who are these people that vote like that? Is it just to be awkward?
I’ll try it: my mum is a sweet little old lady, not in the best health, who everyone adores. AIBU if I push her out of her chair at Christmas lunch?
Am I being unreasonable?
AIBUYou have one vote. All votes are anonymous.

I envisaged her hair catching fire when you brought the pudding with the brandy-fuelled flames licking around it.
Auntie Maud had styled her hair for her but overdid it on the Elnett.
Mama's coiffure went up like a torch and you hurled her off chair to wrap her in a rug, hence extinguishing the flames.
Totally U.

Haha! I have thought the exact same thing recently. I think the people that do it just like to be contrary- you know how in any argument, there is always some tosser who insists on playing "devils advocate".
"well chardonnay, just playing devil's advocate here- your dear old sweet mother always sounded too good to be true to me- a classic sign of a narcissist, so pushing her out of her chair sounds totes reasonable to me!"

Sometimes, it isn't always clear exactly what YABU or YANBU represents - or it is, but people prefer not to actually read before gracing you with their two-penn'orth.
Sometimes, it is indeed people catching the wrong button and it might also be people just choosing one at random. Folk do that for elections, so why wouldn't they do it for an AIBU by a stranger?

Additionally, there are sometimes multiple variables in an AIBU and people don't want to just commit to one of them, so they focus on the element that is most important to them.
e.g. "I live in Milton Keynes and there are four local orphanages which I like to visit every Christmas Day to deliver big sackfuls of presents to the children - lots of toys, books, a few practical gifts and a small chocolate selection box. They wouldn't otherwise get anything and their sweet little faces light up when they see the gifts and also realise that somebody cares about them. AIBU to do this or am I interfering or imposing myself on them?"
98% of voters: YANBU - That's such an amazingly kind thing to do.
1% of voters: YABU - A selection box, eh? You say 'small', but I'm guessing that it contains at least 3 full-size chocolate bars. People today have totally lost sight of what a normal treat size should be. How is it kind to store up tooth decay and obesity for their futures? Nasty, vile, uncaring monsters like you make me physically vomit.
1% of voters: YABU - to live in Milton Keynes, it's a dump. You should save up the money you spend on presents for the kids and use it to move to Buckingham instead.

I am cackling at this- so damn true!

And you can't see what everybody else has voted before you do, so some folk might just hit any old button to see what the general consensus is.
A bit like when you get a pop-up on a website and you just click any old thing to get rid of it, as it's just getting in your way of what you were doing.
