Flying for a one night getaway staying in a nice hotel?

Should I go to London on a one night two days getaway? It's a 2h30 flight to go to London. i want to stay in a decent comfy hotel and walk around London. My toddler will be with daddy. Is it strange?

halocompanach · 22/12/2019 22:31

I wouldn't fly somewhere for just one night so from that point of I think it's strange, yes.

Shylo · 22/12/2019 22:33

I agree, I wouldn’t fly for one night

Dazedandconfused10 · 22/12/2019 22:34

I would do it for work so yeah, why not.

moumoute · 22/12/2019 22:34

I don't want to stay away from my baby too long but I crave some time on my own and I miss London...

FuckWhenDidIGetOld · 22/12/2019 22:35

Why not? I love flying so I'd do it!

If you can afford it. Go for it! No different from making a long drive somewhere Smile

OneEpisode · 22/12/2019 22:35

London is a big place. You could perhaps look for flights to London City. Possibly Heathrow or another international airport you will spend quite a lot of your two days on transit.

halocompanach · 22/12/2019 22:39

All the hassle of getting to the airport, checking in, waiting around just for two days? No thanks. I'd choose somewhere a shorter distance from home and have a relaxing weekend somewhere else if I were to do it at all (which I wouldn't but thats just me)

NameChangeNugget · 22/12/2019 22:43

Do it

FesteredFairy · 22/12/2019 22:55

Where do you live, or where are you flying from?
There many lively places for a 2 day get away. I would not necessarily put London amongst them.

moumoute · 22/12/2019 23:07

I'm in Scandinavia and there isn't a place that I enjoy around for less than 2h+ flying...

Do it you’ll have an absolutely amazing time x

theThreeofWeevils · 22/12/2019 23:24

Yeah, why not? The planet is choking on emissions, but you miss London, and that's obviously far more important.

moumoute · 22/12/2019 23:36

@thethreeofweevils Okkk I never go anywhere. I have no car. how about you? Do you buy fast fashion clothing?

OP posts:
theThreeofWeevils · 23/12/2019 00:26

Since you ask, @moumoute,I have no car (I don't drive), have not flown for >10 years and probably never shall again, and no, I do not buy fast fashion clothing. Just replace what needs replacing.

I think I was doing the OP a favour, anyway - I am fairly sure she wanted a Greenfight ;-)

MyKingdomForBrie · 23/12/2019 00:35

@moumoute you asked for opinions on should you, @thethreeofweevils gave her opinion, that's kind of what we do here..

Should you - no, morally clearly you should not. None of us should. Will that stop you? Highly unlikely, the majority of people don't let the terrifying reality of climate change get in the way of their personal gratification. Me included, fairly often. My car is electric but my fridge is full of plastic. Doesn't mean I don't recognise that people like thethree are better than me and I wouldn't bitch at them for highlighting that.

You're definitely not wrong to want a lovely night away on your own though! I'd probably just go to a nice local hotel/spa etc though.

katewhinesalot · 23/12/2019 00:37

What's the point? No sooner than you get there you'll have to leave again.

badg3r · 23/12/2019 00:44

Why london? Did you used to live there? Are you unhappy where you are? Personally I wouldn't bother doing one night away with that amount of travel, it'll be at least 5h of travel each day, expensive and probably not as relaxing as you hoped.

theThreeofWeevils · 23/12/2019 00:45

people like thethree are better than me and I wouldn't bitch at them for highlighting that.

Oh, I don't think I am 'better than you' on the grounds of not flying (I bloody hate it, but had to occasionally for work and it is a huge relief no longer to have to) and not driving - I am fortunate enough to live in a city with good public transport and I do not have small children that need ferrying hither and yon.

And I really am not the shape for 'fast fashion' - unless they are doing "doughnut chic" these days.

But back on topic, I do feel that to fly for a one night break is - profligate, I think is the word I am groping for.

By the way, @MyKingdomForBrie, I heartily endorse your user name.
So I'm not a vegan, then Xmas Wink

MyKingdomForBrie · 23/12/2019 00:53

doughnut chic Grin

I go to London to go to the theatre, staying one night.

I travel for four and a half hours in total to get there.

Last time I went around on the bus until 2am and had planned the next day out.

If you've got the funds then do it, a short break does you the world of good.

katy1213 · 23/12/2019 01:24

I've been to Sweden several times for one/two nights and had a lovely time on my own. Nice hotel - lots of walking - nice dinner.
Do come. If you choose the flights well, you'll have two full days. Or maybe consider Edinburgh? Shorter flight - less distance from airport into town - smaller city for getting around on foot.

katy1213 · 23/12/2019 01:26

Also, I can't see why a return flight is any more/less profligate if you stay overnight or for a week?

theThreeofWeevils · 23/12/2019 01:52

Fair point, Katy. Probably less, as limited hotel towel washing, etc, But to me it still feels profligate.

Do it ! It’s a great time of year to enjoy London.

HowDoYouLikeThoseSuedeApples · 23/12/2019 02:22

If you feel the green pinch re travel here’s a link It would cost about 14 euros to offset the Co2 from Stockholm to London as a guide. If you travelled economy.
